Friends rage quit today afer running out of fuel.

Well, I could be doing the "easy talk", flying around with a 32ton Fuel Tank and a Class 3A Fuel Scoop.

BUT...

I do remember right after the last Wipe I nearly ended up in a similar situation in my little Sidewinder.
The 300Cr Fuel Scoop is dirt cheap - but darely competes with one of the very precious internals slots of that very Sidewinder.
...

I'll say it again - a good time to learn that lesson... Better than:

I was jumping in my Type 9 fully loaded with 500T of super rare Galaxy Core Fairy Dust, and I ran out of fuel, with no options to jump anywhere, now I'm up for 6m credits in insurance, and lost 100billion credits in rare goods!!! *RAGE*

Screwing up in a Sidey or Eagle means you are likely at the start of your journey,no big loss, and easy enough to do a clean wipe...

This thread has really run to 14 pages?

If you only have a sidey and run out of fuel self destruct. Nothing lost you are at the beginning and learned something

If you are further along then self destruct and use your insurance - simples

ps. don't buy the next ship until you have the insurance cost, and watch where you jump. It's dangerous out there USE YOUR BRAINS

Hello Commanders!

The pre-release mechanic for a distress signal was removed when fuel scooping came online. Its implementation at that time was always placeholder, open to abuse and underwhelming.

However, we would like to see a return of a distress signal system, as long as its rules are reasonably robust and comprehensive. This means taking into account player-to-player interaction potential, the affects of distance from populations and so on (using a distress signal should have its own risks and permutations).

I'm not going to give any ETA; at the moment it's not on the immediate to do list.

But it is definitely in the big pot of "potential updates that make the game better".

Hope this helps clarify things a little.

In the mean time is there any chance that you could make it so a ship can be refueled from Hydrogen Fuel cannisters? That way if a friend is in trouble a person could haul them out some fuel instead of them having to self destruct.

Well since nobody seems to believe it's possible to run out of fuel without being an idiot, here's my story...

Friends played in gamma, so I preordered the game a few days before launch... Have played semi-casually for a few days, using my friends for tips/advice.

Days ago I almost ran out of fuel, so I asked them what happens if I do, they said "you can send a distress beacon"... I ended up finding a station and refuelling.

Fast forward a few days, I'm in a moderately upgrade Eagle (FSD, power dist, weapons, etc... not that there is no room for a fuel scoop) had made my way to empire space, was having an OK time completing missions and hunting pirates.

Decided I wanted to go to a large pop system roughly 30-35LY away, figured I may as well make some money from the trip, found some high value items that were in high supply where I was, and high demand where I was going. So I spent 55k of the 60k I had and filled my cargo bay and headed out. At some point during my trip I noticed I was below half for fuel, and started looking for a station. There wasn't a station in the system I was in, so I jumped ahead another system in my route, no station, next planned jump was too far for my remaining fuel. I had 2 systems within fuel range at this point, neither had stations.

As a result, I ran out of fuel, my ship decompressed (because you know, the windows and doors in my car always blow open when my tank is empty, for all you who like to make the jokes and insults based on what happens in a car when you run out of gas) and I do not have enough money left to get my eagle back. Yeah, I can restart in a sidey... but you know what, I've decided this game is not for me. I didn't come in here to post that I was quitting, I came in to explain it is entirely possible to completely ruin your entire game based on a pretty simple mistake.

Feel free to ridicule me, I don't care... it's communities like that which make people leave.

more important than the distress beacon being removed is where the hell are the wobble head dolls that used to be on the dashboard? I miss those

I had this happen tonight. Never thought I would, but got wanted status in a system and I couldn't pay it off at any of the stations so I had to go to another system, closest one was two hops away. The galaxy map said I'd make it, but that doesn't take into account the fuel you use in system. Came up just a little shy on the last jump.

Was costly, but it was also nice clearing all the bounties in random places I'd never get back to and cash in.

Some kind of player to player fuel transfer option would be good.

In another game some other time, rescuing players who had ran out of fuel was a fun thing to do in multiPlayer.
