Here is a list of suggestions that i think would add a lot to Elite, i am still adding more things to the list.
Frigates:
New "modules" for frigates/carriers:
Salvage 2.0:
- Salvage Drone controller(normal ships);
* Drones, can cut open ships to pick specific modules or open cargo racks that are full of intact cargo;
** Can be done by any ship that can fit a Drone controller in its optional internals;
* Drones, can cut sections of the ship and transport them to the mother ship for processing;
** Can only be done by ships that have fighter bay capabilities, since the ship pieces are larger than the cargo hatches;
- Salvage processing unit(normal ships);
* This module will process pieces of ships in to commodities like Titanium, Gold, Platinum, Osmium, etc, that can be sold in markets;
* This module can also make a more precise processing of the ship piece to recover modules (unengineered and engineered) that can be sold or used by the player in its own ships;
- Salvage yard(frigates and fleet carriers);
* If you have a frigate or fleet carrier with one of this modules installed, you can request a pick up of the wreck, the frigate/carrier will arrive at the location(it should NOT use fuel to move inside the system) and with the help of a "tugship" it will bring the wreck inside the frigate/carrier;
* Recovered wrecks can be processes for commodities/materials, modules and, if the ship is in enough good state, the frigate/carrier can repair the necessary modules to make the ship semi functional, so it can be take to a station for full repair and be able to used by the player or sold to market;
- Engineered modules: Make engineered modules worth more than its unengineered counterpart, so recovering an engineered module can ban an interesting income method;
* We should be able to sell ships with engineered/modified loadouts/modules to other commanders with the fleet carriers, this will give an those that don’t want to deal with the grind to engineer a ship, a chance to experience this part of elite for a premium cost;
Legacy ships - Related to the salvage mechanic:
Mercenary Mechanic:
Frigates:
- Poor man fleet carrier (1Bilion cost);
- Have space for only 5 ships stored in its hangar;
- Only the owner can store ships in its hangar;
- Have only 1 Large, 1 Medium and 2 small landing pads;
- Does NOT have: Commodity market, black market, shipyard;
- Less cargo space, up to 5000 in cargo space;
- Does not appear for other players in system, only the owner can drop to its location;
- Other players can only drop to its location when they drop in the owners wing beacon;
- Jump the same as a fleet carrier, but have less space for fuel in general;

Legacy ships - Related to the salvage mechanic:
- Sometimes players will find wrecks of ships that have been lost for hundreds of years;
- This ships are the ones found in Elite, Frontier and Frontier first encounters;
- This kinds of ships can only be recovered by frigates/carriers;
- Legacy ships can not be flown by players before going through a process of “modernization”, obsolete modules must be substituted by new ones;
- After modernization the ship can be used as a normal ship, BUT… legacy ships will always perform worse than its modern counterpart, for obvious reasons;
- Those ships can be collected by players, sold in stations or to other players through the fleet carrier;
- New missions can be found in some stations of npcs looking to acquire a certain legacy ship model in exchange of a good sum of credits;
- The legacy ship models could be recreated in Elite dangerous in the same way the Commander Jameson cobra was recreated;
- The Oolite(http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Oolite_Ships) have some interesting models that could be used as base for this ships;
Mercenary Mechanic:
- If i am not wrong, this was promised by frontier in the early stages of of development of Elite Dangerous;
- The idea is to be able to contract up to three AI pilots to follow/protect the player around;
- This could be implemented by adding mercenary facilities not only in stations, but in frigates/carriers too;
- The difference between mercenaries contracted in Stations and Frigates/carriers, would be the ships they use;
- * Mercenaries contracted in stations would fly their own ships, while mercenaries contracted in frigates/carriers could receive special ships customized specifically by the player;
