From 3060 to 3070ti (new mainboard, Ram, Psu)

So in VR its really really frustrating not having the resolution I wanted with the framerate/smooth rendering.
Luckily for me I have a friend, a fellow Cmdr Snake who's Stateside. Long story short he gets my 3060 I get this 3070ti. And yes he already has a new rig with a 3080 in it so...It was going spare.
So new board etc to accommodate the monster.
Fractal design case to put it all in.
So why am l telling you all this.
Well it's simple.
I'll let the facts speak for themselves.
Running odyssey in 4k with the old gpu in VR (g2 reverb) was a stuttering mess especially in combat or in an orbital/planetside. The 3060 just didn't have the horses needed. So it was throttled back to 73% on the steam slider hmd 1.0 ss 1.0 fx quality high all ultra with ambient occlusion high and just wanting the eye candy hehe.
Now!.... its at 150% way past 4k and smooth as silk. All the bells n whistles on full tilt and its no problems wotsoever for the gpu.
Now grant yes the new chipset and more ram help..but rendering is gpu grunt intensive.
And having a bigger gpu DOES make a difference post patch 11.

Hope this helps anyone thinking of upgrading.

Special thx to Cmdr Snake for his generosity.

Good news indeed. Also good news videocards prices are starting to drop a wee bit

This gives me something to look forward to. The weather's nice at the moment so I'll wait for prices to drop a bit more. Odysseys can take a bit of time

Just for some clarity: What framerate and cpu/gpu load are you getting in VR at a populated settlement? I simply can't believe you can run Odyssey maxed out at 150% on a 3070 ti at 90 fps (or even 45) where it counts. I cannot, and I run a 3080 ti on a 5900X platform (I also have the G2). Well, I can, but only in unpopulated space. And I have to tone down some settings.

Just to add another data point: I can run Odyssey at 70% (I don't recall what per-eye-resolution that is) sufficiently enough to enjoy it, usually at 90 fps in space. But whenever population is involved - Res sites, space CZ, space ports, settlements - I can only run stable 45 fps, or, in the case of Odyssey settlements, my framerate completely tanks into the 30s and below.

There are still the same problems as before U11, like the tanking of the framerate when returning from the concourse to the hangar. Framerate is still VERY inconsistent, runtime dependant and all over the place. Throwing more hardware at the game only helps a little.

Not trying to be a Richard, but you've made that "running flawlessly" claim before, only to casually add later on that it was at 30 fps, which is horrible for VR. Good on you if you can tolerate that, but don't trick people into thinking throwing expensive hardware at the game is a magic fix. IT IS NOT.

The biggest problem with describing VR performance is when personal tolerances aren’t mentioned. It’s why I tend to keep quiet on the subject these days, I know full well I have a very high tolerance (or am just optically unaware of small stutters etc.)

Dear OP, you mention only in passing that you replaced the "mainboard etc". You have thereby introduced so many other unstated variables into your supposedly simple videocard comparison that I can't credit your claim that a card upgrade was the fix. Could be; but insufficient evidence to support the claim.
