From Baron to Prince in two sessions

Remembering the pure pain it took to get to Baron (wanted the Clipper natch), over weeks of Empire grinding, I'm kind'a shocked that this newest not an exploit apparently took me up a rung on each run (literally). Would've gone up to king but that's pretty pointless and since childhood, dressing up as a little... prince... explains why I even bothered going past Duke (to get the Cutter) - just need that 200 million creds now (got 40 Million so a ways to go yet).

Surely this isn't working as intended?

EDIT: Would've reported it as a bug but not sure it is, something to do with the BGS?
EDIT2: Obsidian Ant has a link to it.

Well the question is : was having to do 100's of donnation missions to access a ship working as intended ?

Surely this wasn't working as expected?

IMO 2 to 3 times slower than now would work just fine. Before it was pure mind numbing insanity.

Not donation missions. If you do data deliver missions and pick the reputation option you get WAAAAAAY more rank than donations. I tested this last night, 1 donation got me about 1% at Post Commander, data delivery got me 7%. Took me less than an hour to go from Post Commander (5%) to Rear Admiral.

That's now, before was donations. It is much better now. People complaining they can blast through it too fast (this after they don't need to do it as they already have; nice) but you are forgetting the average player doesn't read the forums and this change will make life much easier with gaining rank through organic play. Nerf it for the 5% that do it "too fast" and you are screwing over the remaining 95% of players.

Oh don't get me wrong. I don't want it nerfed. I love it.

I love the new +++++Rep rewards. When you need to get your faction reps up it's great to have it done in an evening rather than a week.

The question is... what missions were you repeating, and was it worthy of an imperial rank promotion! ;)

I can tell ya, no one gets promoted at work for sharpening pencils for 2 days! or flicking elastic bands at the board room door for 6 hours a day for 2 days.

Hope it was worthy!

(Grats though!)

I am sure the rank and reputation gain is some 2-3 times more than it should be. Made it to rear admiral in a few days and am a good way towards duke already, only working data missions out of Sol and Achenar respectively.

Also easy to get allied status with factions. So if you need the Alioth or Sirius permits, now's the time.

Going to King might give you access to another ship in future. If they nerf this it will be a pain afterwards. I'm Admiral and King. In before the nerf?

In the 'old days' it took about 10 million credits worth of small missions to advance to the next rank. Now that payouts have increased and ranking options are added easier is better! A little less grinding for rank just to unlock a ship is good for everyone. There's still plenty of grinding to go around to outfit a billion credit Cutter.

"He must have been an Admiral, a Sultan or a King..."

This is all I can think of when I hear "I'm Admiral and King..."

In a game that prides itself being grounded in science, this Imperial "naval" ranking system is simply ridiculous. Being "promoted" to "King" and all that nonsense. Knighthood, perhaps but I thought royal bloodlines mattered.

To me, Naval rank should require combat missions or at least specific mission-types related to military or law-enforcement operations. This also should extend to actually earning the right to acquire rank-locked ships such as the Federal Corvette. There is something about "Harmless" King/Admiral CMDRs piloting Imperial Cutters or Federal Corvettes just doesn't feel right to me.

There is nothing wrong with not being a combat pilot or anything like that, progression as a Trader or Explorer roles and the privileges earned should be rewarded differently than combat especially when they are earned ferrying the equivalent of a bunch of USB-sticks from one outpost to another without one shot being fired.

For example, region permits could be tied to Exploration achievements and Trader achievements should earn Corporate titles, like Director, VP, SVP.

The game's "balance" in 3.0 is the worst it's ever been. This is a slap in the face to those players to had earned these meaningless superpower rankings the old-fashioned way. Why should anyone invest serious time--weeks and months of game time--and effort towards any particular "goal" when a shortcut can come along with a future patch that offers a shortcut like this mission reward "system" when I can accomplish the same thing in the matter of hours?

What's next, Successful Login Achievement Crown and Slash?

Bare in mind, as has been explained countless times.. these are not military promotions nor genetic alterations - these are Honorary Titles, meaning you are afforded the same respect as someone actually holding that Rank or Title, but nothing more.

A perfect comparison: When in military tech school, we had many instructors who held Honorary ranks of Master Sergeant or higher, though they had GS-# paygrades, were civilians, had no command authority, but we were expected to treat them with the same respect as an equally ranked NCO.

Thanks to 3.0 ive managed to:

A: get my PC ranks up to king and admiral from duke and Vice Admiral and
B: Get king and Admiral on my PS4 account from no ranks

I had so many points backed up..that I went up three ranks in an hour or so because I just took the rank up missions....

I occasionally work on my rank. Last time I set out to go from Post Commander to Rear Admiral. Well things were far easier than previous so ended up as Admiral in only a few hours.

Personally, this is a part of the gameplay / grind whatever you care to call it, quite enjoyable and a break from other stuff. Thats now over for me with regards to Fed ranking.

If this quick progression is unintended and reverted back to its previous state, I'm ok with that.

You're the reason why we can't have nice things. I hope you get mad and quit.
