oh and here is my Hud color settings what i find the best :

Blue

<MatrixRed> 0, 0.05, 0.29 </MatrixRed>
<MatrixGreen> 0, 0.29, 0 </MatrixGreen>
<MatrixBlue> 0.35, 0, 0 </MatrixBlue>

got 1 or 1 pips in hud color strengh

Nice read, my view is similar. I remember the dk2, although it had SDE, the image was a lot sharper, when Elite got 1.3 support, the gamut setting was screwed, and low hdmi range, it looks so dull now. I'm sure Frontier will patch it back to normal at some point.
I've recently dropped both gamma and gui brightness down rock bottom. It helps to avoid any God rays. I now use Gunnar Optiks Glasses as well which help avoid the rays.

Everything maxed out with 2x SS? What kind of fps are you getting on planet surfaces or in stations ? Open or solo? My OC 980ti definitely struggles with high and 1.5x or even 1.0x SS. Are all settings high and ultra? Thanks..

My DK2 to CV1 impressions are as follows:

1. better resolution thus clearer text better looking textures etc
2. better clarity to edge of field
3. more comfortable by far
4. holy god rays! Not sure if tweaking settings would help at all since this seems to be a lens issue, but dang I kind of feel like the DK2, despite its shortcomings in other areas, might actually be a better headset for a game like ED due to the severe smearing of light I see from any and all illuminated objects. I can't imagine this was considered to be an acceptable design trade-off in the interest of better focus/clarity to the edges, they keep saying how amazing their lenses are but it seems like a huge compromise to me.

I'm sort of envious of people who never used a DK2 prior to the CV1 since you probably won't notice the god ray light smearing as much, but it's like using a DK2 with filthy lenses. I have slight astigmatism but not very much, some say this affects severity of perceived god rays. I'm not optically savvy enough to know why/how that might be the case though.

just turn of ambient oclusion and its way better . ambient oclusion makes everything glow

oh and for the dk2 you have to put on 2x supersampling its a ton of difference. makes the blurryness a lot better . I also have it on 2 with cv1 i can try it on off for the guys with no so good grafikcards

2 x supersampling makes almost no difference to me apart from making the game judder like a judder monster !

Oh god! Every time I hear this kind of thing about the god rays I have this crushing feeling that I've wasted my money ! I wish someone out there could hack the Oculus code so we could have old style supersampling and no smear.

Basically pre 1.3 but with the good performance gains of 1.3

I am afraid, hacking some code wouldn't help against god rays. You would need fo hack physics itself... and you would need the name-giving deity to do this! ;)

Furthermore, I had an interesting experience, lately.
I was sitting in the livingroom with my girlfriend, ready to watch a DVD. Everything was dark, with the exception of a bright, blue LED.
And I almost had to laugh. Guess why? The LED had god-rays! As actually any high-contrast lights in a dark surrounding.
Yes, I wear glasses!

Why is this worth mentioning?
Because I usually don't notice these rays!
Really, as a spectacle wearer I have to deal with this issue every day (okay, every night, to be precise) and it doesn't bother me at all.

Don't worry! You can get used to it, too!

Regarding the lens flares, has anyone heard anything officially from Oculus regarding them? I haven't seen anything, but hoping someone knows something I don't.

Edit: I found this post on reddit from Oculus to a owner RE: exchanging the cv1, and getting different lenses.

https://m.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/4il58s/oculus_support_admits_that_god_rays_are_in_all/

I was hoping for more of a "we are working on fixes/alternatives, but I'm not surprised by their response.

To be honest, i think these lenses are just what they are and removing flare is pretty much not gonna happen... being a pro photographer, controlling light flare is a b*tch at best in lens technology and to control it takes money, and quite a bit of it... The lenses being used in this first gen are pretty cheap and are having to control a whole load of distortion which in term creates quite a bit of flare in high contrast scenes.

Beavers have rays in the dark too especially unpaved ones. Don't put your eye out kid.

Yeah this is it in a nutshell. I hope in the future we will see VR hardware that uses no compromise lenses be made available at a premium price point.

What FPS do you get with x2 SS? I have a GTX980 and if I set everything to Ultra and disable Bloom and Ambient Occlusion with 1x SS only I get 90FPS constant.
If I use VR Low and x2 SS I get 45-50FPS only. x1.5 50-60FPS.

Does anyone have advice for a higher SS level than 1? I don't OC the card it's a standard MSI GTX 980 4G Gamer edition.

Edit: noticed this from user kPAck:

Will try these other settings thanks.

Have you tried Oculus SDK? Set pixel density to 1.5 and leave in game SS at 1. Makes a big difference, text is really clear.

Not so far, I'll try this as well, I thought to try things involving the SDK until last. But it seems the SDK tools are essential in the setup.

I tried this at 1.5 and at a setting of 2 when setting tripple buffering to on with the d3d tool. The fps is a steady 90 even at 2x. I think the combination was key to getting the highest fps with high quality.

I only wish I could find a log or game output other than ctrl-f that confirmed the settings actually was active.

You can use the Debug Tool to get that info in-HMD - for Pixel Density choose 'Layer' for Visible HUD. To get frame performance stats set it to Performance and then for Mode choose App Rending Timing or Performance Summary.

yeah you have to use the debug tool put it (before you start puts supersampling in elite on one )on 2 then press return then start oculus then elite when i´ngame close debug tool and it really a ton off difference , at the m0oment supersampling in elite is bugged hope fd fixes it. but yeah use the debug methoded and see the differnece
