I bought this, and it is pretty damn decent. It's quite a bit different to Elite, as it is almost exclusively focused on the FPS elements, rather than the space flight elements - for the most part, the only thing you really use your ship for is jumping to another system, where you might run into an enemy ship, but space combat is very much like that in FTL, where you and the enemy are static, firing your weapons at each other, and your strategy is all about targetting their subsystems and commanding your crew to repair any damage you're suffering (though you can also decide to try to get a teleport lock, beam over and damage the enemy systems and/or kill the enemy crew). The main difference here is that, in From Other Suns, you're actually doing this in first person VR from the bridge of the ship. Most of the game, though, is spent shooting various people on space stations and other ships in order to find fuel, missiles, cargo for selling/bartering, more crew to recruit (who also act as extra lives - if you die, you 'respawn' as another crew member) and better weapons (both for you and your ship). You can also play it as a co-op multiplayer game, which can be rather fun.
As for the locomotion, it comes with a variety of options, including smooth turning, snap turning, full locomotion, and a weird form of teleport - the camera stays put whilst you move your character using the left thumbstick, then teleports to where your character now is when you release it. Personally, I've never had any nausea problems or anything just using full locomotion and smooth turning, but the other options are there if you need them.
