Elite / Frontier Frontier Amiga version replay Starmap help

Hi All,
I'm new to the forum but an old Skool Amiga fan.
I still use my Amigas and have decided to boot up Frontier from my venerable original A1200s hdd. Still works after 20yrs !!!!!!!!!!!
So to get myself nice and excited waiting for ED I have dug out my original boxed edition of Frontier to re-read all the manual and docs only to find that my Starmap is missing :eek:
If I remember I had it stuck to my study wall many years ago and must have gone missing when moved house.
Just wondered if anybody here has access to a zoom-able version online?
Thanks for your time.
Cheers

Frontier Elite 2 Map

You mean like that one :)

That is certainly a good image, but I wish an even higher resolution one was available.

Geraldine, I have the original map still, but I doubt you'd get better resolution than the image provided. Plus flatbed scanners aren't that great they claim to have up to 9600 dpi but they rarely give such decent results.

i "remade" the map so that it shows maybe a little more useful info :

i wanted to see how big were the federation & the empire. actually they do have several systems outside the map. and there are a lot of other independant systems outside as well in any direction for quite a few LY.

further on the "south side", off the map, i found a system under "federal interdiction", i dont know what it's about.
on the right side, just outside the map you can find aldebaran, but there's only stars in that systems.

i also found valhalla in Eniaor[-3;-4] :)

i put the galaxy map on the right side to see how big was the covered area((-9;-7) to (4;4)).

i added a few missing stars(e.g. Arcturus).

the "empty" aeras arent all empty but there's a lot to add there actually :
column #-8 #-9, and partially : column #4(bottom), #7(top & bottom), and row #7(both sides) a few missing systems in the [-4;-6] sector between Daured & Riedquat.

it was hard enough to check them all one by one. maybe later i'll look around.

i noticed a lot of planets called "gold" ;)

it's possible that i made a few mistakes as some system descriptions contain errors, i only checked the actual system when i had some doubts.
some planets are said to have starports when they have none.
and many systems are said to have a population of "less than 1000", sometimes even more than that, yet there's no single starport.

i did not correct any typos (e.g. Diso instead of Disco).

i added the trade routes in the core systems.

Impressive amount of effort gone in there, nice one.
I wonder if Frontier would mind us printing it on large format for a bit of a nostalgic wall covering.

it did take me a while ;)

i could have make it a bit more nice looking, but i didnt want to rewrite every individual star names ... making the original seems to have been quite a task as well, i assume they typed it all by hand, one star at a time, resulting in many typos and some missing systems.

thanks!

it seems that the bottom part is missing though.

i couldnt help but change it a bit, i filled some of the empty areas, i have kept the left side empty(darker area), i'll have to change that and check this regions but later ;)

i've talked about a system under federal interdiction("visiting is illegal"), that's Arayes, an independent system in [4;-7].
i've been there to check this but no permit is required.

now i can extend the map a little, see how far humans live out there.
i only added what was behind the frontier logo since the last post but i had to write every single star system names and make sure the grid behind wasnt too different from the original(the scaned map grid wasnt perfectly regular).

on the bottom left hand corner it would seem the "frontier" isnt too far away. i know there's one federal system and at the very least another independent system outside on the left .

oh, and if you dont want to go to valhala, i found nirvana, it was hidding behind the logo in Andqueth(-7;4). given the gov type i'm not sure anyone would want to go there at all.

That last map is really impressive .... and just think that's a small fraction of the stars that are going to be in E: D..... :)

But great work some of the names though still make me laugh... I mean Quaack...

thanks, and as a french i couldnt help but notice the "holala"(-7;1) system ;).

there's the "legend".

i would imagine that everyone will guess the meaning of "années lumière", but just in case it means "light years"

strange audio transmission detected in sector (-3:-6)

"New" starmap for FE2

a new version

extended on each sides :

top+3 sectors
right+3 sectors
bottom+1 sector
left+1 sector

Capella(4;4) was missing (it wasnt on the original map).

the colors still reprensents the same things :
green : "uninhabited" system(no spaceport nor station, with our without registered population)
gray: system with no planet at all
yellow : independent system(one system at least has station+spaceport in it but 0 (registered) inhabitants!)
blue : federal system
red : imperial system

i dont know what to think about the blue & red background for the federation & the empire.

Extended by 3 sectors in each direction(from the limits of the original map).

It seems that the federation has bases all around the empire, and all around human space in fact.

Had a good FE2 session last night following your map Nicomak. My Imperial squire went on a several month spying tour of those far out "southern" federal systems. Theres not much trading to be had in that area but I still managed to earn my 5 millionth space buck. There is plenty of scrapping to be done though due to the abundance of anarchy and civil war systems so I also finally advanced my rating to dangerous. I was surprised to find at least one more Fed system off the bottom of your map. Might take a spin past Spica as it's only a couple of jumps out now. :D

glad you like it ;)

there are two of them further south, i have a bigger map now including all of them(row 15 to -16, column -12 to 13), and one is missing : see the 3 imperial systems on the left? further west, there is another one (Tiolce), it should be on that version you had but i missed it somehow, it's colored green(as unihabited, with planets).
there's another one further north too (between row 11 & 15) ;)

if you want to go to Spica (-4;-17) you can go through Quanve (-3 ; -15), it's inhabited. ;)

also there is another system in the north, the federation seems very interested in it, they say the federation owns it but you wont find a place to land there, some have seen scientific expeditions going that way. ;)
