Frontier, are you penalising alpha/beta players??? or Combat/Trading Rank progress bugs

I have a feeling you do and in that case its not really nice/fair for players who go for the Become Elite price (or against anybody in general).

I heard some rummors after the Founders world exploit "retribution" that players Elite rank progression have been reset.
Let me make this clear: You are Enterprenour in trading and are at 379M which should be 1M away to Tycon and then FD "fixed" the exploit and you have to grind your way to tycon again like you would start from 134M again except you still have your money. Only the progression lost. This was the theory at least.

It was hard to believe that FD would do something like this (intentional or not) but this weekend i was doing some serious Bounty hunting and klilled around 1000 wanted in an anarchy. My starting number was about 1100 kills and 109 warzone kills with Expert rank. I should have hit Master around 1500ish but i didnt. I noticed Master around 2000 but i stopped checking after 1900 because i was still Expert and it annoyed me. I remember hitting Expert at ~730 and i was around 1000 when they did the account fixes.

Same thing with trading. I should have hit Tycon at 384M but at 406M im still Enterprenour. I will probably hit it around 500M based on my calculations.

I'd like some confirmation from FD if this is true, and apology for my accusitions if im wrong.

I did notice the exploit in founders world and ticketed it right away (like many others did) but still no reply to any of my tickets from december. I know you guys are working hard ot other things, but this is no way to threat your costumers. Please fix the ratings.

What they did with founders world exploits was remove the credits gained from the exploit.

No one knows the calculations on the ranking system. Anything mentioned here is speculation at best.
What we do know, is that combat ranking is based on an ELO type system where you need to kill higher ranked NPC's in order to gain rank. Just killing novices won't get you anywhere.

They didn't touch the rankings in the cleanup, as the exploit didn't affect the rankings.

I think they did. Just read the part when im not Tycon at 406M as a lot of other Commanders who had Founders world access. The forum is full of their comments. At least i seen it in more then a handfull of threads.

I don't have founders world, I didn't trade rares but I did play through gamma.

I ranked Tycoon at exactly 420 million.

I still don't have any idea why some get it at 380 million but it took me an extra 40 million to achieve it. Looks like it will take me longer to reach elite than many others.

Yes, a dev comment would be nice about these things. Reaching Master at fighting also really strange 500 kills later than others. Lots of expert/master/deadly/elite pythons and condas killed also.

Rank progression depents on your profit per ton as far as i know so someone that ist trading for 2k credits profit per ton will hit Elite faster then someone trading for 2 credits per ton.
same goes for fighting kill Elite NPC´s will give you a faster progression then killing harmless NPC´s

You're not wrong about the speculation part! ...and then you go ahead and speculate as to how the ranking system works. ;)

I wouldn't go so far as to say that killing lower ranked ships than you is worthless. They are likely just worth less than killing ships of a higher rank than you.

Well one thing is sure, i got to Master without cashing in that 5Mill i have accumulated yesterday in bounties, so its probably the kill count whats count in here.

what rank where those 1000 NPC kills?

ranking speed depends on level of your oponents.

There is no such thing as you should have gotten Master at 1500.

The guy who got elite ranking first via capship "exploit" got dangerous around 2000bonds and bounties.

I got it at 4200 bounties and 135 bonds and 35MCr in bounties collected. Probably a third of those bounties were double bounties via KWS. So my effective kill number probably was barely over 3000. Still a lot more than the 2000 of the other dude.

The Founders World exploit "automatic credit fix" also reset the "skill points" of some commanders. This has been confirmed in PMs by Devs and the only comment on what to do about it is "open a ticket".

It appears to have no correlation to wether you actually had credits removed or not in the fix, as both players who got the e-mail and players who didn't have been affected by this. I still have no reply to my ticket, and no fix for this issue. 445 million Entrepreneur here and probably an eternity from Dangerous, as I got Master shortly after release so all my combat progress since then has likely been wiped.

What we do know, as it's already been mentioned by a dev on how it works for combat.
It was some time ago, so I won't be able to find a post. But we have been told, regarding combat, the rank progression is worth a lot more for killing higher rank ships, and a lot less for killing lower rank ships. Very much like an ELO system.

Didn't mean to imply it was worthless, just that it won't get you as far as say killing ships much higher rank than you. :)

Yes, is not tied to turnin like trade/exploration. But isn't just kill count either. Rank of oponent counts too.

Btw. if a guy has 2 bounties on his head (via KWS). The bounty claimed count will go up by 2 (or three if he has bounties from 3 factions).

If history teaches us anything it's that Rank progression is unlikely to be as linear as being based on a single statistic such as Trade profit or Combat number of kills where the Elite games are involved. In fact if it turns out that they are that linear I'd be disappointed.

I quite like the fact that these systems are an unknown quantity, it prevents players doing precisely what needs to be done to rank up and nothing else.

by all accounts exploration is only depending on exploration profit. Albeit not linearly. More like exponential. And exploration profit calculation is rather complex. Depending on size, type of the objects scanned and level of scan.

Trouble is the higher your combat rating the harder it becomes to rank up. I have a master combat ranking, I now have well over 3000 kills, but alot of them are lower ranking than master. So when I eventually hit dangerous, almost all the other ships will be lower than dangerous, so every ship I kill will hardly count at all.

indeed!

Only place to get reliably high ranked oponents is Combat Zones.

I was at 4200 bounties by the time I hit dangerous... as I was mainly fighting at RES and them Cobras are only master or expert...
