Frontier Developments Will you sort out mining in the next patch ????????

At the moment and as it looks in this update you have left mining to the way side. As somebody who would like to see a vast improvement when it comes to mining it would be best if you could sort this issue out sooner than later.

Things which WILL improve the game mining wise.

1, Mining Drones

2, Tractor Beam Cargo scoop (Set to scoop at 50 meters)

3, Ships with built in cargo scoops (special mining ships made from normal available ships)

I know others can ask for many other things but we do need a tractor beam cargo scoop as soon as possible because mining is not being used as a path for making money in game.

I am asking and I think we do need a time scale as to when these things will be brought into game fully.

Thank you for your time...

Here we go again with the tractor beam crap.

Yes mining needs some love but we only really need a mineral scanner and a way of marking asteroids as 'mined out'.

and please, less question mark abuse. Thank you

Mineral scanners are boring as a tractor beam, except tractor beams let you mine anything and mineral scanner makes it spot the platinum, that being said i'd take either + a refinery qol buff so you don't have to assign over and over again.

You still have to fly around and scan asteroids though. Whereas with a tractor beam it turns mining into a lame "press X to get ore" joke.

The point about tractor beam is if it was in every other Elite shouldn't it be in this one? Also A cargo scoop tractor beam makes it much faster for people to mine because, clearly you haven't mined much, it takes so long just to mine anything good even if you are already getting 88% ore. If its made into a special ship, for example a mining Asp, then they do not need to sell it at stations in outfitting.

I have to say that the only people who do not want this to work are the people who do not want to do mining as part of the game.

and here we go with the "anti tractor beam" crap again. Is it the name that upsets your delicate sense of .... whatever ?

Because I'm sure we can collectively come up with a better ED centric, lore friendly name.

You do realize that ST has foreshadowed many of todays RL technologies, correct.

So no reason to exclude a logical solution conclusion that the citizens of ED in year 33xx would have come to same as the bright folks in the ST universe. After all .. what do you think keeps you ship centered (or tries to) in the mail slot? Our friken laser beams were on NCC-1701 (and others) should be ditch those as well?

How about since we're all playin pretend here... that we "pretend" that a quantum level collection beam (QLCB) applies a "pulling force" or a "attraction force" on smallish objects and brings them towards your ship's open and waiting cargo hatch?

Right now I'm enjoying mining, it's fun and it takes a little skill to dodge asteroids and position yourself so the fragments float towards you so you can pick them up by the smallest of thruster movements.

Imo adding tractor beams would ruin mining as it would be no skill involved. Just fly there hit a button and fly away. Hardly fun but hey, feel free to keep moaning until they ruin the only part I'm enjoying atm :p

I'll happily stand corrected here, but as far as I recall, tractor beams weren't in every other Elite. Not in the original or Frontier at any rate - not sure about FFE.

About mining - it would be nice if you could get a lot more chunks of ore out of a 'roid before it was mined out. Maybe balance that out by reducing the amount of high end ore/metal available per chunk so that finding a golden asteroid doesn't automatically give you 'I win' amounts of money.

I tried mining a few times and found it pretty tedious. To me some automation (or the potential of automation, with the right modules installed) of ore retrieval would be a huge improvement.

Are people fitting out anacondas and the like to be able to do looooong mining sessions, or is that just not possible? How fast can people refine ore and what's a good hourly run rate of ore mined, refined and sold? What are people earning by mining?

Steve50 - "... feel free to keep moaning .." _only_ just for the record, I don't care one way or another as I don't mine. (yet) but just offering a counterpoint.

If I were to pick a side .. I'd "lean" towards no auto collection mechanism. (read no lasers, bots, or magic)

I think mining it too tediouse right now and I just cant find a reason to do it. Cargo scoop upgrades like magnets or extending grabber arms to mane it quiker and easyer would be cool. Along with more in each asteroid, some are huge but you can only get like 10 chunks b4 ots time for a new asteroid. Scan and mark on roids would be handy!

You have to go to some far flug corner of the galaxy to find pristine reserves with less than ideal wepons due to mining lazer.. and then test loads of roids at random hoping for some thing worth mining to get about 2 or 3 tons of goods and then start looking again. After you have scooped up the chunks witch in some larger ships is a challenge. Then haul it back to the nearest station for like 40k ... I would love to mine if it was worth the time and effort.

40 tonne cobra gets me
- about 250k CR from metal rich ring pristine reserves if I pickup most of the things that give me chunks of 50+% of a single given mineral or metal
- and above 500k CR in a metallic major reserves if I only pickup most valuable cargo.

dunno if u use sidewinder with single spot refinery then it maybe gives you 40k.
I use 6 slot refinery and 2 minig lasers. more you mine better you learn to fly, faster you pickup stuff, more efficient you get.

I never will say its more profitable than trading or anything else, I don't know and I don't care. It is enjoyable for me. I would rather have more variety of options and places to mine than just cutting rocks. like scooping dust and gas clouds. being in risk of getting some actual damage due to mining. Where I go there is nothing to disturb my process.
I would like to see mining more interesting not easier.

I'd like to see mining machines that you would need to set up properly (after scanning and locating a desirable asteroid). Then you would leave for, say 24 hours and it would mine for you. Different sizes would mine different quantities.

When you come back to collect the goods, you would need to broadcast a signal that would activate a locator beacon on the mining machine.

The beacon would transmit throughout the system, and would be visible to all others in the system... Human players and NPCs alike. Once you arrived to the machine location, there may or may not be a happy gang of locals waiting for you, and you would be mass locked in an asteroid belt. So.... It could lead to some interesting situations.

iirc they've added an incredibly valuable mineral (36k/ton) that can only be obtained by mining.

Obviously we need scooping drones etc but still, a step int he right direction :)

I doubt 1.3 will add anything to mining, but that is only based on gut feel.
No to tractor beams please, but yes to larger containers allowing larger ships to collect more than 1 Ton at a time (thats ok for smaller ships, but in an Anaconda? bleurgh)
Yes also to a dedicated mining ship that can eventually have smaller ships bring it cannisters (i.e. use WIngs to have wingmen mine for you and bring you cannisters to your very large floating mining barge).
