Frontier devs, a little suggestion for the tfaddy sock-eating planding Reddit thing

Hi all!

Over on Reddit, someone called tfaddy has said that he will eat a sock if the announcement at Gamescom is planetary landings. And it's now spawned quite an enormous succession of memes.

To his horror, it's been posted on the front page of the Elite: Dangerous subreddit, but he's being a really good sport about it all.

Now, I'm not going to second guess and decide what the announcement will be...

But here's a suggestion for the Frontier devs if planetary landings is the announcement.

Reference his quote when you make the announcement, right at the end, with a big grin.

And then offer to send him one of those chocolate Christmas stockings wrapped in foil (show it), or an actual edible sock or something, so you can spare him the unpleasantness of actually eating a sock.

Dunno, it occurred to me, so I thought I might as well make the suggestion :)

And good luck all of Frontier at Gamescom - I know you must be crazy busy at the moment!

Always nice to see people getting overexcited based on wishful thinking. It helps me anticipating the wave of rage-quit or super-disappointed threads.

Someone recently asked me on the forum if I'm "one of those sock-eating commanders" ... I had no idea how to answer that, but thanks to Jynessa, it's making a little more sense now.

Well, that's actually funny stress release. Guy who promised to eat sock was clearly too worried about PL hype going around. However I agree there will be rage quit/disappointment/this game is dead threads any way or other. People will say PL is wrong focus now. If there won't be PL - people will blame FD for hyping reveal. Etc. etc. etc.

People will say it's the best thing since sliced bread, faultless and the great new hope of pc gaming. Others will say it's the end of the world and everything that's wrong with life. As always the truth will be somewhere between the two.

He's actually just trying to be sensible about the whole thing - but of course someone picked up one metaphorical expression of disbelief and the internet mob ignored everything else and ran with that.

And now there's quite a lot of posts about socks and sock-eating. Some of them are actually pretty funny (I like the new commodity shopped one).

I doubt very much I'm going to be disappointed if it isn't planetary landings... I've still got the game to play after all, and that's been entertaining me (almost to the exclusion of other games) for over a year. I'm quite happy to talk scuttlebutt and not pay too much mind to however it turns out afterwards :)

Yeah, it is kinda pointless to wait something specific from FD - if it will be PL, it will be fun. If it will be something new to core gameplay - yaaay. I will be happy in any case.

As for rank - yeah, it seems I have been fluffing here for way too long :D Which is a bit sad, but true :)

He wanted to cool eager minds...but I think that's kinda pointless. He also had missed several facts and that attracted lot of crowd. People will hype and people will be disappointed or relieved. That's how life goes.
