Frontier, Do Something!

As of this post on July 13th, 2020, the last DLC pack was almost 100 days ago... and nothing really in between. No major updates, announcements or anything. The game has been extremely dry in the last few months because no new content was added. Now it may seem that Frontier is pushing the 4 months in between DLCs thing. I’m totally fine with going 4 months without a DLC but at least give us an update, maybe a small anonymous animal or something to keep the creative juice so flowing. People are and are going to continue to stop playing the game if it continues to be in the drought.

I also am completely aware that we are (sorta) in a global pandemic right now and being in the office for Frontier has been hard or no even at all so I do get that. But, there was a DLC pretty much at the height of it, and between the Arctic and South American DLCs, that time period was really dry as well.

We’re in a drought🏜and need some rain⛈

Like with your previous posts (which pretty much have the same tone to them), things will come when they're ready. Making threads saying 'Frontier, Do Something' isn't going to bring the new content any faster 😎 Am sure they want to get a new DLC out ASAP as they are a business after all but if it's not ready for release then we're just going to have to wait a bit longer. Trying to rush it to supposedly prevent people stop playing the game (which I don't necessarily agree with) clearly isn't a viable option. They're still working on things as shown below so hopefully it won't be too much longer:

In-between DCL's we do get several updates that fix bugs that people are reporting to the Issues Tracker.. A free Update and DLC will be announced when they are ready to go. It's been just a few days after the 3 month mark. They also seem to give us news on dlc's on Tuesdays. But when they are ready to tell they will all let us know.

You say give us dlc to keep things fresh but also say the game has been dry for the last three months...so does dlc only keep you interested for 10 days?

Now I do agree, Frontier is awful about giving information, which just leads to speculations running wild and people inevitably getting hopes up for disappointment. It is bad practice in my opinion to not at least give some sort of vague roadmap so people will stop expecting birds in next dlc (for example). They could easily tell us "we are (or are not) working on birds for the future" and it wouldn't set them up for failing to meet a deadline.

I'm sorry if I came out as "bored" or "complaining" about the game. Planet Zoo is such a great game and in no way am I bored with it! (I havent even fully dove into the Arctic Pack or South America Pack, but that's a different story). I just am expressing that I would like see an animal, or career level, or more community challenges I'm not saying that I'm abandoning the game, I'm just giving suggestions. I'm just getting a little anxious about the new DLC bc they're definitely is one on the way but the clock is ticking. I know that this pack will be amazing (especially of its Australia!). So I will be glad to wait for something better, I just want to know about it. Make sense? Hopefully this week🤞

We are not only in a (sorta) global pandemic, but also in summer - a season many people usually take their main vacation, no matter if there is a spreading disease or not. Almost every game company slows down a bit in their production as well as in their communication during this time.
Some announce this openly (e.g. Paradox), some others (that are usually more close-mouthed in general; hello FDev!) apparently don’t.

Personally I prefer announcing an update when it's ready rather than announcing something months ahead and then delaying it three times. Speculations are better than frustrations. :)
Speculation leads to frustration. Just look at all the disappointed threads from last two since it didnt include what people speculated. Like I said, I do not expect a detailed timeline of announcements months ahead, just some info on what to expect. For example, are birds even a thing they are working on or not? Same with water animals. Extinct animals?

You mix speculation and expectation.
Baseless speculation is fun. It's when you let it turn to a baseless expectation you're going to be disappointed. It's like with any other kind of entitlement.

So don't do that! It's great talking about "what ifs", if you're willing to accept that not all ideas are good enough and that devs can't read our minds. :)

That aside, it still doesn't explain why most other game companies have roadmaps, and people know what is coming at least a month or so in advance. Keeping the game on people's radar by providing any sort of roadmap seems like the smarter move from a marketing perspective. And the statement they only announce when ready is kinda as they give streamers access to it before they announce anything, so it is more than ready for at least a summary statement of what is coming.

Ok you definitely have a point here. But, the pandemic has slowed down here in the US and non-essential businesses are allowed to open. I don’t know about the UK but I’m assuming it’s the same if not better. Also, I feel like the summer is actually the best time to put out content bc people are at home and looking for something to do (especially this summer) rather than in the rest of they year when they’re working and busy, not thinking about any new content

I agree that it would be nice of Frontier if they gave us something. But sadly that's not how they operate and frankly, if it works for them and we get that piece of content in the end, I can't really complain.
As for the roadmaps, I don't know. They doesn't seem to work. If you look around the internet, when ever a company released a roadmap it ended up two ways. Either they didn't uphold their promises on the roadmap, or they changed the roadmap along the way. Neither of those things is better than what Frontier is doing.

As quiet as the teams are announcing these updates, they are still working on the game as we speak. I do not know much about Planet Zoo's history with updates and DLC as I just started the game yesterday, but from someone who has been playing JWE from the beginning, these quiet moments often follow up with some notably big updates that cover a good portion of errors, glitches, and much needed QOL and gameplay updates. Planet Zoo is still a new project and is the second game in the planet series, basically their newest baby! So I doubt it won't be worked on.

If a lot of things needs to be changed/improved for the game to be better, it needs the respectable amount of time to do so. It is frustrating to hear nothing new for months on end, but it pays to be patient in these moments. Especially with current circumstances everyone is going through.

Honestly I don't think the pandemic/time of year is having as much of an effect as you make out in terms of game development. As far as I'm aware they can all still work remotely from home so it's all systems go on that front. The Christmas/new year period I can understand it more if things slowed down. I get we're all eager for more info (which can only be a good thing) and all this Steam activity recently hopefully will bring us more news in the coming weeks.
