Nice find there. Thanks for posting the link.

I missed out on being a reviewer for Elite 2 by a single Month. CD32 gamer ran their review the month before I joined :(. Instead my first big piece of work was on Skeleton Krew...

didn't know it was released on CD32, too. Or was it vanilla amiga version?

oh, no! I just wanted to be polite, and now I'm swarmed by amigans
Any atarians around here? HELP! :D

Did someone say 'Only' Amiga ?

I had 7, ran an amiga dialup BBS for years on .. 3 of them, in succession, after loosing them to lightning.

I started on videoscape 3d which became lightwave and video toaster, and maintained them at the local cable tv station, then at 2 others.. ugh.

And if the commodore management knew their ass from a hole in the ground they could have eaten apple alive.

.. anyhow, I'm over it.
Amiga emulates fairly well these days.

Amiga beats Atari! :p

Nah, it is interesting to read reviews from that time period. The writers often turned them into a story format (even in Finnish mags) which I found entertaining. I haven't seen such style in a while, but it could be my fault since I rarely read reviews nowadays...

How did you like the recent remake?

I wasn't very impressed, but - then again - I never played the original so I could not experience what the game might have meant to an old fan.

being an old fan.

I liked it, graphics are nice the FPS sections in the campaign are crap but if you look past the crappy FPS sections in the campaign and ignore some of the AI path finding Routine then what you have is a Carrier command remake.

If your a fan then i think you will like it, if your not a fan but are intrested then i would say dont bother spending anymore than £12 on it.

the thing is, if Elite doesnt turn out to be the game we all wanted but instead turns out a bit Meeehh!!, it wont matter to much as we are fans of the original elite, and any updated elite is better than no elite.

That's my thinking also and that's why I wanted to hear an old fan's reaction to the new Carrier Command - knowing that it might be different from mine. :)

What I find interesting about the old Frontier review, is that they are actually frustrated that you can't get out of your ship and walk around!

I think Elite will not be the game everyone is expecting it to be, and i imagine that on release the game will break many into love it loath it camps.

if Elite turns out like a large scale freelancer clone then i will be happy, if it turns out to be the game i would like it to be then i will happly divorce the wife and live my life in a darkend room crouched over my keyboard playing elite.:D

I liked the reference to Mercenary and was many times wondering what would it be like to get the two game concepts merged. Maybe ED is it finally, 20 years on?

On the topic of Carrier Command, another staple food for my STeeM emulator. And the Gaea Mission remake is a big fail in my opinion unfortunately. There was a guy making an OpenGL remake by himself for many years, but he quit in 2009 once Gaea Mission went public and I really regret this, as the OpenGL remake appeared to be much closer to what I would have liked to play as the "next Carrier Command".
