Mbrookes, elite super moderator. Does this title mean you have anything to do with frontier or did someone just give you this title because they felt sorry for you. This forum has been friendly and good-natured: let's keep it that way. We are all keen to know about Elite 4 (at 52, I've been waiting longer than most!!) but I appreciate Mr Brookes' and Mr Braben's involvement in the boards.

I should point out " nat " in uzbekistan means, it aint heavy feel the love young man. Sorry for any confusion.
I did not at first understand that this forum was located in the far flung reaches of the gentlemens section of the net.

Just an idea but maybe you can name a ship in the yet to be released elite 4, NAT 1 HEAVY MAN LOVE SHIP., in honor of the residents of uzbekistan.

Yeah, we try to keep it relatively civil here, there are enough places on the net to throw around obscure colloquialisms without needing to do it in this forum. Respect given is respect earned.
Of course I'd like to see E4 released as much as anyone and if I was working at Frontier I'd be very flattered to know that there is a community out there that is craving a game like this and asking the various questions on this board. This shows how much we believe Frontier can do this better than anyone - no-one else has done it yet !
As for asking questions about Elite IV's release I personally feel that Frontier can achieve something great with the Elite IV where companies such as Egosoft, despite their best efforts, have not matched anything Frontier produced like with Elite and its sequels. I think the direction David Braben had taken with Frontier and First Encounters are a work of genius and I easily got myself lost in the game because it felt like I was playing in a real simulated galaxy. Now because Frontier already have the source code to these games they already have a working code base that demonstrates how the existing features work. I'm no expert, but I get the feeling that to make Elite IV you could pick the existing source apart, analyze and re-apply the techniques using whatever current development suite they are using to make the game. Then build on top of that with more features, new missions and new current graphics.
I'm curious to know, mbrookes, is this how Frontier are approaching the development work on Elite IV ? oh err, and what does David think to being (constantly lol ) asked for a release date as often as he is ? - come on, be honest ! ( Somehow I could imagine him wanting to strangle some of us for our nagging sometimes lol).
Just to note:
The Egosoft X series has nice graphics and a good trading system, but I got bored quickly just flying around a limited number of sectors and not being able to do anything like I could in Frontier for example. I had hoped that in their most current games they would have had seamless planetary landings and a simulated galaxy with realistic stellar systems but they decided it would be too much work and focused on the trading and mission aspects of the game (its discussed on their forum - sorry, I have no link to my source for that info).

Meh, maybe the old games were ahead of their time. I too would have thought SOMEONE would have done SOMETHING - even a clone, that allowed you to do the planet landings etc.
I heard that Frontier was written in assembler, isn't that a fairly meaningless language to the naked eye? I never had experience of it, but I like to program with nice friendly syntax
Here's a question for the Frontier Dev team, how did the previous games sell? I mean we all know they were brilliant, but were they well received by the wider gaming public? Maybe then we'd deduce if we were in for more of the same (but using the modern computing power) or if the team were trying to work a new angle to broaden the appeal past us nutters.

Well we can always just hope that play.com does know something we don't and it's not that far away....
Or not. Reading about the game on wikipedia it say's it's vapourware and with nothing solid to pin our hopes on that it's even under serious development it's likely to stay that way. Oh what a cruel cruel world!

How can you have been waiting longer then others?
The wait started after the last PC version and that is
just as long for most of us waiting. And it has been a long time.
Had to do with X line 1,2 and 3, freelancer, darkstar one.
And all of them aren`t what I was looking for.
Basically, if you have to name it, F I R E F L Y(the movie and series) , kinda
idear of spacetravel.
What do I look for in a new spacegame.
Yes, like so many, planet landings.
I would like to walk through my ship to, repair my own stuf inside,
if need be. Ride/walk on the planet, to cities etc., to get my own contraband
or repo something or hunt for a fugitive.
The machines can do the job nowadays, the programmers? It seems
they can`t.
(BTW. nice forum layout, was easy for me to use, since www.talkgraphics.com has the same one, made things real
easy. Only thing about the site, why do you first have to click
on a gamepicture to find out that there are forums in here.

Oh sorry, I am new here, the nick I use was the same
nick I used to save in Elite on my C=64. There I used the nick for
the first time. And Elite set the standard what I wanted in spacefare
games.
Also nice to see the old Elite rating system under the nicks, I
wouldn`t classify myself as harmless
