Community Event / Creation Frontier / First Encounters. Windows Installers

To overcome the "save file" problem in frontier and first encounters from my site i have created Windows installers for the games...So now the games will install on your PC & save files and configs will now work....I have a question though..

Would you prefer the games to run in a window on execution or fullscreen ?

Of course you can use ALT+Enter to change mode anyway but on initial execution what is preferred ?

Once i have sorted this i will upload them along with the other Elite Forever Updates

Wonderful that you fixed this, well done synchromesh! As for screen preference, I usually run it full screen but others might prefer a window. Add a poll?

Are you wanting a Mac version of FFE psykokow? Have a look here for MacJJFFE. Synchromesh, you might want to add this to your game list too, but remember you will still need the PC version for some of the files.

In a window for first boot, then let the user set the preference. Full screen startups are ... distracting...

Windowed every time, I hate stuff that takes over full screen on first load personally.

Would love option for maximized window full screen though.

Ok at a quick glance it appears a window mode is favorite on initial launch..
However once launched you can use these keys

Alt + enter = Fullscreen / Window mode
Ctrl + F12 = Increase Framerate
Ctrl + F9 = Exit Game

And as i really want to get these tested i have already uploaded them for you to try out so here ya go...Frontier and First Encounters with installers and now the saves work

So this isn't an installer for the original games (FE2/FFE), but an installer for the dos boxed versions?

The originals WERE DOS based. DosBox is a client that emulates DOS operating systems within a Windows environment and allows old games to work.

Question - does the installer install a version of DosBox along with the game?

I know they were dos based. I thought this was going to be an installer to install the games from the CD onto a new machine so you could play them via JJFFE, etc.

The installers were added as the "saves" did not work in the runnable versions i already had on the site...

This was just a tidy alternative that fixed the problem and saves anyone having to do all the setup themselves.

It installs a self contained standalone dosbox game.....It wont interfere with any installations of dosbox you may have already

Hopefully your save games will be in the commandr file within the autoplay folder. it is on mine anyway.

ye sure....c:\program files\frontier elite II.....or ...First encounters Elite III directorys..

Go into the MOUNTDC folder and you will find the standalone runnable dos games...You only actually have to add the JJFFE stuff to the dir and run it and you should be good to go...Hope that helps
