Frontier....if you're going to kill my binds file. a clue would be nice!

Now after recreating a Custom Binds File which worked last night for what I put into it. Imagine my surprise when the error message "Failed to find GUID for device: KeyBoard " shows up!!!
Cannot find GUID for a bloody keyboard, the same one plugged in that I'm using for this and was using last night!!!

I now know why people LEAVE this Game in absolute frustration.
Please dont tell me to restore from backup....I decided to ditch CH Control Manager as now being bloody useless (Don't buy CH Products Gear ant longer) and just go native. Soooo why does ED think my keyboard required a GUID but if I load a preset....it doesnt?

The game will balk any time any controls included in the saved binds aren't detected at startup. Simply not running CH Control Manager would be enough if any of the devices reliant upon it was bound to anything.

Anyways Para....found another issue.
When Frontier add an amended .Binds File > extra sections and controls, your original file will no longer work. If you try to add new control bonds from the interface it seems NOT to create the intended control object as nothing is in the expected segment or position. So will keep failing.

I’ve had to copy in a new generic joystick file and copy and paste my existing working sections into the blank sections in the new file.

Frontier never makes things easy. What’s up with the update just appending/inserting the New Sections into the existing Binds Files therefore not borking them in the first place?

That's really strange, I've been on here about as long as you, all those updates with new binds - never once has it borked my binds. It either added in assignments or marked in the controls section where new assignments were needed / available. (Was it an exclamation mark? - Not sure.)

Is this just because I have always used a renamed binds file, never "custom"? - maybe ¯\(ツ)

So for me, the game always did what your last sentence asks for. No idea why some people have such issues. Never once did it fail or original file not work - the worst I have ever had was not knowing what to assign to make the FSS work, that was a laugh in the the beta - "third person camera" wasn't it? - who would have guessed that? However, my binds file still loaded and everything that was previously assigned remained so.

For sure though, Frontier do need to recruit someone who can code a "Save As" button in the controls options page, it is obviously beyond them even though they said it was being introduced years ago.

Sorry you are having issues, hope you get sorted OK. (y)
