Frontier is looking at options on custom HUD colours for consoles

To me it reads that FD are going to find a way to give Console players the same access PC players have. Not that they would create a UI customization feature for Consoles alone.

wouldnt be fair to charge on console and be free on PC.
Wouldnt be fair to start charging on PC because of console.

SO just make it free for console and free for PC.

much PR love.

They'd better put it on the PC version too. Some of us don't see editing game files as a viable option.

I'd rather be able to edit the game files to get what I want for free, than to only have the option to buy something I don't like.

Be careful what you ask for...

Oh, the trust that would destroy. Glad they're looking into it. :3

How so? For PC they are letting us do the work, and giving us infinite customization. For a consoles that takes paid programmer hours to develop a solution. So why would it be any different from ship kits or paint jobs or bobble heads?

Console user here, can anyone link me to some cool looking custom HUD's? Honestly, I can't find anything better looking than the default orange and blue.

Because on PC, it isn't hard to DIY. I believe console players overall would hate being the only ones that have to pay. Of course, this happened with Minecraft texture packs and skin packs. Personally, I think it would be cheap like weapon colors so I don't particularly mind. I don't wish to start a fuss over a positive thing, so I won't. These forums have too much of it as is. I'm excited for the prospect of HUD colours regardless.

Easy/hard is irrelevant. On consoles it's just not possible to edit .ini files. Hence a solution costs Frontier money to create. And not only this but they would need to either sell packaged solutions that worked well in a variety of lighting and background color situations (this would take time to test and dial in). OR they would need to program a whole interface for dialing in your own RGB settings.

Either way a solution would costs Frontier a significant amount of man hours = a significant amount of money. Why should they work for free for console players? I mean, it would be a nice gesture, but you're basically asking for charity. PC gamers pay thousands more for their rigs (and have paid around $120 min for the game you are getting for $50) so really, paying $2 for a hud color is getting off easy imo.

I am not arguing or asking for charity. I am stating that others will. I am happy with what you have said is likely to happen.

Edit: Spending a lot on a rig is personal choice. You can get the console quality settings for a decent price, but that extra money does indeed earn better graphics and dare I say a bit of consideration in situations like this. If they develop a solution and charge for it, they better not find a way to force it on PC. That would anger me, even as a console player.

Edit again: Also, forgot to apologize if my posts seemed to be arguing for charity or anything. Didn't mean to come across in that way. Lol

I hope that they do proper HUD color customization (i.e. changing the orange without having to change anything else, like the IFF coloring). If they can't pull that off then it's not worth it.

Who decided on orange, anyway?

I'd be willing to bet Console players paid for their games too. This is most certainly not asking for charity. Head out of butt.
