Frontier mentioned for Xbox Series X games development

I'm hoping this means that there's a XSX version of Elite Dangerous coming soon. Frontier were quick off the mark to release an enhanced version for Xbox One X. Of course, Elite isn't Frontier's only IP so the announcement could be for one of the other games.

I saw this too, and did wonder what it meant in relation to the repurposed ice surfaces, especially since ED now stretches across a lot of console and PC generations....will New Era ED be one of those X Box Smart Delivery games that gets more shiny played on Series X?

It only means their future games will be released on Xbox Series X, too, which means their F1 and Warhammer games. Of course, all Xbox One games will be playable on Series X, too, which means Elite, Jurassic World, Planet Coaster, Zoo Tycoon etc. This announcement has nothing to do whether they will upgrade the game for Series X or not.

That said, I'm not sure they have to, at all. You can already choose 4K resolution in Elite, and since framerate is unlocked, it will run at 60 fps on Series X (something the One X can't do). So both 4K and 60 fps are covered already. And if Frontier introduces any new graphical features to Elite, then I'm sure the Series X version will get it, just like on PC. No need for a new game release or "Smart Delivery" for that.

I 100% expect an XSX improved version for Elite. Maybe not "day one" but even if we'll still benefit from the console power without an update, it'd be very surprising if Frontier didn't add some bells and whistles.

Cant wait for the new F1 management game from frontier hopefully we get to see some things soon.

They can only add as much as is in the PC version. Right now the Xbox One X version covers all bases. All effects (like "god rays" in asteroid fields, which is not on One S), 4K, 60 fps. More serious graphical upgrade can only be expected if Frontier upgrades the whole graphics of Elite in the "New Era" update next year. Then it is possible that only Series X will get the new graphical features. But that's in the future. Right now Frontier doesn't have to touch Elite on Xbox and it will still run much better on Series X.

I’m 99% sure they will as a paid expansion is coming in the future so that would be the time to implement or future proof the game.

I’m expecting mainly higher frame rates and some level of improved fidelity. Game looks pretty good tho even compared to what I see on PC with an RTX 2070 and i7 cpu

Being honest ... incredible eye to catch this

They can always improve shadows, rendering distance, etc. I don't expect anything mindblowing, but it'd be weird if there was no update at all.

I noticed that!!!! Just this past week when i was doing LTD mining. i didnt know if it was a one x thing or just part of an overall graphical update. Its nice looking too.
