It seems to me that E D players agree that the game really comes to life using OR while OR users agree E D is a game that really showcases the technology.
Development of both appears to be on a similar time-frame.

Given all of that, how much liaison is there between the two development teams and do they, I wonder, see a closer, mutually beneficial relationship, at commercial release?

Imagine the commercial release of the OR shipping with a copy of Elite Dangerous or a copy of Elite Dangerous coming with a discount code for an Oculus Rift.

Do you feel as I do, that this a natural partnership waiting to happen that could promote both products upon launch?

I'm sure they are in limited discussions regarding support and development etc but I wonder if this has been discussed?

I could definitely see a Rift bundle including a copy of ED (at least a download code if not a physical copy), with ED art all over the box

That said, ED should be released in the next 2-3 months, while the Rift will probably come out later than may 2015 so they're not really simultaneous releases. Wouldn't stop a bundle from happening, though.

No but if by chance their release dates are relatively close then it shouldn't matter too much so long as both still had that shiny new feel and I can foresee a situation whereby one or the other could be delayed to accommodate a simultaneous release.
Normally that wouldn't be plausible but this is a unique case whereby the rift likely will not have a flagship release other than Elite Dangerous worthy of promoting the technology and Elite Dangerous would gain hugely from being marketed through the OR technology with a small proviso of course.
