It's a funny thing with FE2/FFE. I was perfectly happy playing FE2 - I even had the CD32 version which was great - but as soon as I started to get into FFE I hardly touched FE2 again.

There's just something about FFE that works for me. The X-Factor, if you will

Couldn't have put it better myself. I get the feeling that if the Russian mod continues the way it's going I'll be the same with that.

Next question. In the Russian Mod, if I download that now, and start playing it, but then improvements are made to it, can I get them to work in my downloaded version? I've seen lot's of mentions in the thread about it, saying about replacing files. Is it that simple? I'm not very technical, unfortunately.

As far as I know (not managed it myself) you can browse the russian site and download the ship models etc.as a zip file nad copy them into the same numbered directory.

Now If someone who has done this could put together one big zip file.....

Ok, so, update on where I am.

I have been trying to play FFE, the 3D one I think, but damn is it hard. Everywhere I hyperspace to I get attacked and shot, very quickly!!

I think I'm going to try Frontier this weekend and see how we get on with that!

Get over to the Sol system and start trading there and Barnards star System until you can upgrade, you wont get attacked there and it will give you a chance to get used to flying the ships, as DraQ said read the tutorial on how to fly.

Yes, I tried getting to Sol, but still got shot down. Struggling with Frontier now. I went to the Frontierastro page, good stuff, by the way, but I can't unzip the files I've downloaded from there, they are .rar files and I can't get them into my winzip.

No problem. Google winrar. Download and use that.

7zip handles both .rar and it's own (somewhat superior) .7z format, and has better licence.

I'm not sure if zip or rar is better, but Vista should handle them both.
