Currently, supporting minor factions doesn't produce any interesting results etc. There is no real changes in gameplay when faction expand, if it prosper well or collapse. Basically players can role play like The Winged Hussars members when they are expanding "their" faction but still there are no "benefits" and changes to the game play from it.
I know that Frontier won't change how minor factions system and wont lock it behind guild wall. So in order to make it more interesting: What do you think about making connection between factions and module and ships markets.
For example certain faction my be responsible for producing certain modules or ships, or at least for producing module and ship parts. If these factions starts to loose their influence, systems or participate in wars it will lower amount of produced modules. It will increase it prices and lower availability. In the worst case scenario, modules and several kind of ships may be not produced at all, of course it should auto balance quite fast by players interested in acquiring these ships and modules. In that case, players will support factions in order to start distribution again!
Furthermore certain minor factions my compete each other and for example Sirius may produce high quality FSD where another faction may produce high quality power generators. Both faction are close to each other and only one can produce modules at high speed. So players will compete in BGS in order boost factions of choose for purpose of buying a module.
Another interesting idea is it to introduced faction modules like Sirius Tech FSD, etc. This will increase variety of modules and parts.
