Frontier, Please Increase Material & Data Storage

We're fast approaching 2.4.

We're fast approaching even more weapon and ship upgrades from engineers to counter the aliens.

We're fast approaching that same day when we'll just have absolutely no room for material and data storage.

Frontier, please increase storage of Materials by 500 and Data by 250 - AT THE VERY LEAST, for the love of the Gaurdians.

Honestly, the cap should be increased by 1,000 and 500 respectively.

We just do not have any comfortable space to store so much with so little.

Ideas

- Perhaps allow a 50 capacity increase to Materials and 25 increase in Data storage each time your rank up in all 3 rank categories? It would also be a nice benefit for something to "aim" for.

- Perhaps allow another extra 20 capacity increase to Materials and 10 increase in Data storage each time we rank up with either the Federation, Empire or Alliance? (Only one counts, the highest).

A straight up increase besides these ideas needs to implimented anyway. We need more room; it does not detract from the time it takes to gather these materials or data in the first place.

Please, please, please, consider raising this for 2.4.

It is not a big ask and it would make gathering materials and data so much less of a chore.

Thanks you in advance.

I do think an increase would be great but I always liked the suggestion of letting players set a cap on each type of material and data. That way we don't collect to many things we don't need. I think it's a good qol idea that would make the current limits a little more livable.

The problem with material storage is, that increasing it could change the balance of the game - synthesis of ammunition for example could be problematic with bigger material storage as it removes the balancing downside of ammunition based weapons.

I don't think that just increasing the storage - or hide the increase behind yet an other grind wall - is so simple like it might look at first glance.

A new thread a day till it gets resolved I say :p

But serious, yes, this is one of my top peevs in the game. Really does drive me nuts. I throw out more mats than I use it feels like. Makes me not want to engineer at all.

Remove the limitations all together or significantly increase the capacities across the board, including bookmarks & data.

I would even be fine for them making it a purchasable feature in-game. Perhaps we can 'engineer' more mat/data storage for a substantial cost.

The only reason to have a materials cap is to prevent G5 god-rolls and infinite ammo refills. A much better solution would be to implement a per-material cap of 20 units or so. I spend much more time playing Elite: The Excel Workbook than actually flying.

Just let the limit per material be player programmable.

Why we don't have material and data storage in Stations?

And commodities?

We need station storage and and commander trading (including credits, YES, CREDITS!)

The solution is the implementation of a good storage system, give to the players the possibility of to hire storehouses in the stations or something like that. As a patch for the problem it is a good solution to increase the limits, but a better storage system is needed for cargo, modules, data... etc.

I like your last idea [money]

A slight alternative to station storages is to allow CMDRs to hire or store cargo racks (with materials/data) in stations which can be transferred like ships if required.

After finally accessing a Thargoid base/lightshow, I'm saving all those unknown data scans for 2.4. My gut tells me they going to be used for future (Anti-Thargoid) Engineers and I have no desire to spend another 3 hours obtaining a UP in order to get more of those scans, not anytime soon anyway.

Add on the scans from the ancient bases and I'll all for more data/material space.

Can we wait until *after* we see what a Material/Data brokerage has to offer? If the Science & Research Contact is what I think it is-a place to trade Material & Data-then storage capacity might become a moot point, as we might well be able to trade in 20 Common Materials for 1 Rare material.....just as an example.

First I have heard of such a thing .. is this coming in 2.4?

Well the Lavecon screenshot for the Search & Rescue Contact also showed a "Science & Research" Contact right beneath it. Until now, that contact has been the place since 2.2 as a place to hand in Materials and Data for certain Community Goals.....so if it is now a permanent contact at certain stations, then logic suggests that it will now act as a brokerage. Also, Sandro has been talking up the introduction of a brokerage system since about 2.3 came out.....& without the usual "No ETA's, no guarantees" caveats ;).
