Frontier: Please tell us what you're working on that isn't narrative

The new Thargoid BGS is a key feature overhaul, the key feature being the Thargoids and their BGS themselves.

This matches the U14 major narrative phase as advertised in the roadmap below, taken from this thread
Which is not a key feature overhaul (KFO)

Since their only update scheduled for this Early 2023 is U15 in April, it is to be expected the U15 will include the KFO.

I respect your opinion, but a whole new layer of BGS representing a new gameplay system the players can interact with has little to do with "narrative" to be frank.

It is entirely related to the new narrative - which is a direct continuation of the previous narrative (September 2020 - November 2022)
Compared to the old narrative this one seems to take fully advantage of the 4.0 engine/client capabilities, still i wouldnt call it an overhaul because it looks to me completely new

Not at last, they seem to be completely on time with their scheduling - last year they were on point with every update, which update released exactly as advertised (maybe except U11 which was delayed, but only a bit)

However, that does not exclude the fact that the KFO may not be ready to launch in U15 (although 5 months is a bit wider timeframe than the usual 3 months during the last year) and will release later on.

I guess we will see if U15 will include the KFO (IMO it will), however - not everyone will recognize it as a KFO 😇
Only 2 months till April

I think ED would have been dead by now if it was a single player game with no further FDev involvement (the release model followed by the previous incarnations of ED)
To static without BGS and without any relevance regarding personal achievements if not for the shared galaxy.

There is and They do
as it is now you are probably be right but I suspect (just a guess of course) ED would have been a pretty different game if it had focussed on single player .
it is what it is however and generally I think it works fairly well as is

my personal choice would have been built around single player with emphasis on well made richly detailed NPC's but added in a multiplayer support like in payday2 or left4dead.
so I would invite a few into my world and progress would be made in it . perhaps I could share this like a shared server or perhaps when my mates log out they go back to their own universe... but take any materials/xp/cash/ rep or what ever with them.

but it's by the by. it's not the game they made :)

Here's hope the key feature overhaul is just redirecting the mission description and NPC chat text generator through ChatGPT. Should make for interesting stories. For the creepy pasta they could even link it to Bing chat. :D

What do we want.. New stuff !
When do we want it... Stuff !

If the new rework feature is engineers, again....

Flimley

You could be right, I'm not trying to make an argument out of this. But given the context of the last couple of years, it wouldn't surprise me to hear that the Thargoid BGS was the key feature overhaul and the community is heading towards a new wave of disappointment, expecting other things based on their personal preferences and wishes (insert Powerplay, Engineering, Fleet Carriers or whatever you want, here).
But that's a given, no? Seeing how people behave here on the forum, it's sure that whatever improvement Frontier makes to a part of the game will come as a bitter disappointment to some..

Well, yeah, best thing one can achieve is damage reduction. And that's what I'm trying to do, telling people to keep their expectations and personal fantasies in check.

This was always inevitable as soon as they announced something was being changed (presumably for the better) but refused to define what it was. With so many different areas of the game as possibilities, the simple law of averages means most people's guesses/hopes will be incorrect and they will be let down when the time comes.

... that's the pace of content and updates you get.
I too would like a complete overhaul per week, but do you know many games that after nearly 10 years in the business still give you about 8 content updates per year without asking a cent from its players?... I don't, personally. That is something you people seem to forget most of the time when complaining about content. I sometimes wonder if Elite should not become a subscription-based game, with a yearly pass or something like that: then we could really see more content.
