Frontier Store promotions?

Those of us with money like to support ongoing development of the game, making it better for everyone, including for fellow players who do not have much money ;)

Not buying anything while enjoying the fruit of other people's spending is a perfectly valid choice that we intend for everyone to have, but thinking you're being extra-clever for doing that is kind of embarrassingly revealing (at least for anyone older than 14, and yeah probably even then)

The store is win-win-win (Spenders get some hobby parts, FDev gets more dev funding, everyone including non-spenders gets the fruit of that funding)

I go look at the stuff and just utterly laugh my off. Hard to believe they charge for what should be ingame as options. Just another reason to stay away. Amazing.... for so little. Hard to believe anyone with any intelligence would purchase the stuff.

Yet your not staying away?

I'm quite sure I could go over my entire life's purchases and find things far more frivolous and expensive than anything that appears in the FD store. For the price of not eating a takeout meal extra-size and a dessert, which I don't really need anyway, I can put the colours and decorations I like on my pretend spaceships and dress my toy spaceman in a cool outfit. The paint also lasts a lot longer than a takeout boxpiething. Seems okay to me. If this stuff is tapping into your laundry or food monies then you need to pay attention to other things waaay before Pretend Spaceman decorations.

That said, I do have some issues with the vagaries in quality of some available items (floatykitbitz, the rather scratchy-looking Ignition series for examples), and the lack of greater player input in regards to skinwork; some of the stuff I won't buy from the store because it's of poor make.

In the same manner you could say gold, diamonds or art in real life is useless. Also they should be free because they are "options".

You see, devs use time to create those cosmetics and no one likes to work for free, so if they wouldn't be priced they might not exist at all.

See, this is what differentiate us (who can afford a ship skin while supporting the game development) from the plebs.

We buy stuff from the store to support the games development more than anything, it's like a little donation when ever we can

Sometimes when I want a Five Guys burger, I sit and think about how I could buy two paint packs from the Elite Store instead for even a little bit less money than the burger. Which purchase gives me better value for my money? A burger I'll eat in ten minutes and never see again, or some paints for ships I'll be flying for years while also supporting future development of a game that I want to see succeed?

Be right back, I'm off to get myself a burger now!!! Sometimes I just crave a good burger too much!!!!!

Anyway, away from the troll (actually, I can block people right? I'm just gonna start blocking people like him who don't even play yet still post for attention) and back on topic:
Blocking posters on the forum is great, right until someone quotes them. You'll still see that :(

Yep, and most games with this stuff included in the game are subscription based. If it was subscription based, I would probably pay it, but I know a lot of others wouldn't. It would be the end of the game. And really, it is not much money. Most of it costs less then what you would pay for a coffee in costa.

It also goes towards the continueing development of the game. Which in my eyes is a good thing.

I'll be purchasing some stuff from the store today, as when I bought the game, I was asked to identify a special day (my birthday) when Frontier would send me a discount code.

Plus, as others have said, it supports the developers as well as having something nice to add to 'your' game.

I for one would not buy this game if it was subs based. monthly sub to play.
I would not buy new spec console. reason because it subs platform.
I did buy a ps3 because once you have paid for a game, its free to play it online. I only own 1 game on that platform.
I probably pay more for add-ons than it would cost for a subscription.;)

Hi Doolittle and welcome to my topic! In response to your message : Developing a game costs time for people, and a lot of it. In order to compensate those people for their time they are given money. That money has to come from somewhere so somehow a profit has to be made on the game. Since many people have season passes or backed for the game and basically paid their income fee, a different source of income was needed. Frontier promised not to do a subscription model so they opted for the new trend of micro transactions as a business model. If the things for sale have any effect on gameplay, people would think they would need to pay extra money to be able to compete in the game, often referred to as "pay to win". In order to avoid this only cosmetic items are available in the store.

So that is why simple cosmetic changes have been taken out of the normal game and put on a real world money store. So that you have a choice whether you wish to continue funding the game or just focus on the gameplay.

Now that that's out of the way I hope we can get back to the "has anybody seen anything getting a promotion on the store since the price change?" question.
