Frontier Unlocked versus PP2.0

The question thread has been closed with 326 posts received, now some of those are administration and many of them are duplicates and paraphrases of the same question there were also some naughty forumites trying to sneak in multiple questions in one post at the start. But my total guess is that it will boil down to around 150 different questions to answer.

Now obviously the most duplicated questions are the ones of widest interest and should receive a decent amount of answer time but there will be more technical questions that also deserve a fuller answer.

The thing is if Frontier Unlocked #9 is the standard length each question would get 24 seconds and none of their other games or anything else would get a mention.

So I really think they should have a recorded* section dealing with the best questions and a written post dealing with all the ones they are willing to answer.

*Recorded because that way they can do retakes etc to get everything right which obviously you can’t do in a live show.

I would say 150 is an over estimation, but quite a lot of them won't be answered because they are either nebulous, overlapping, or about future narratives which Frontier definitely won't answer. I do think a recorded section would be better, but they'd get a lot of flak in chat for not doing it live as always happens :) I can't see more than 20, 30 at most being answered.

Not necessarily given plenty of people actually didn't post a duplicate question because they already saw it was asked.

Oh wait ... you think they're actually going to answer those questions?

Joking aside ... you're right, FU is not the place, putting the answers in a forum thread would be much better.

A written post on this forum (or their news/patchnotes website I suppose) would definitely be a lot more helpful than (only) a video.

I didn't pose any questions in that thread because others had already asked them; I used the 'like' function to indicate my interest in getting answers to those questions.

I continue to hope that FDev will give less cryptic & vague answers about future plans.

I noticed that people tended to use the like feature rather than resubmitting a question (as we were asked not to repeat if possible). I dare say a like and resubmittal could be counted the same, and analysis be done on that figure to determine most prominent questions.

That said, I definitely feel that the livestream itself will likely focus on a nominal set of questions, probably determined from a mixture of interest gathered from the thread, as well as ease of explaining on the stream, and whether it's a question they want to answer at all. Hopefully we'll get a written FAQ on the subject with a lot more detail than the livestream can present, but I'd still expect it be somewhat limited for similar reasons. I'm sure there's some aspects that Frontier will want to keep under wraps until release, no matter how much we clamour for answers.

That would be great, anyway the most relevant questions are just about a dozen.
My 12 ones :D (randomly ordered).

Game mode (open only?) and rewards
Transition from PP 1.0 to 2.0 (reset, new HQ systems? New powers?)
What happens to modules? (Random reward, scaled reward etc)
Real time update / squadron link in game UI
Connection/interaction with current BGS/factions, population and states
New activities to earn "merits" (ground included)
How "quick" will be the gameplay and factors influencing it (is again weekly based?)
Will new NPC powerplay ships be introduced? I.e. better hunters, stronger haulers etc
What's the role of PvP in PP 2.0
What is going to happen to current R5 perks
Can powers be destroyed totally
How much far powers can go from their HQ?

We should totally make this a meta-thread choosing a list of questions that fdev definitely must answer (y)

People can then be annoyed about which questions they actually choose to answer, and annoyed about the answers, and then annoyed about PP2.0 when it actually appears.

If FD released the 'how to play' manual it would answer nearly everything relevant and not require a FU, or allows more flashy things (like a playthrough showing off the Mandalay landing on a stronghold FC).

We should rename this thread to 'Thread for publicising your questions that are otherwise not getting answered due to lack of likes/confirmation'.

Yes. Almost all the questions would be answered by that, if their intent isn't for it to be a "play and find out" black box. Conversely if they want it to work that way then obviously 90% of the questions can be answered with "try it and see".

The ones which wouldn't are mainly the ones in the "what is Powerplay for?" theme; it'll be interesting to see if they pick any of those to answer.

Unlike V1, V2 is pretty straightforward. Many questions relate to the flow of the feature and its theoretical limits. Its these that would fit best as a limited manual of sorts. Its only values relating to a systems worth and timings for events that are really 'fuzzy' (the suck it and see part) unless they do what Dav did with the BGS and release the values of actions.

The more difficult questions are the more design related ones- how do you balance powers, open / mode weighted, will there be more powers- its these that will most likely be cut since some (like modes) were talked about prior.

They'll do the sensible thing - anwer a few questions on stream and the rest will be answered by playing the game when it comes out.

Every answer they give on stream will be questioned anyway - v.pointless excercise as Q&As always are.

I disagree that it's pointless. Having some questions answered is still better than FDev just stonewalling the playerbase, even if the answers generate follow-up questions.
