Frontier VR Livestream!

Thank you for pointing me there. I missed the stream and i didnt know, that it was with / about VR. Will take a look this evening :). o7

Yeah - it was a pretty decent stream, especially considering it's showcasing something that the audience can't really see (i.e. watching someone in VR on a 2D screen is nothing like actually being in VR). I really wish they'd done a bit right at the beginning (when Paige was in the ship) with Paige getting out of her seat and walking around a bit (guided by Stephen). I think a lot of people new to VR don't quite realise you can do this. I'll never forget my first ED VR experience at Lavecon - first thing I did practically was to get out of the seat and lie down on the floor with my chin in my hands gazing out of the side window. Then again ... maybe that's not normal? 🤪

TL;DW - did they talk at all about the future of VR in ED?

Nope, I'm afraid not. They did get asked about PSVR - again - (nothing to announce) and also about next gen console VR (again, nothing to announce).

No, but they made the effort to do a stream on VR along with a well-known guest cmdr and they were pretty positive on how much it adds to the experience. It leads me to wonder if they would bother doing this if their plan is to drop VR. Hence my optimism.

FDev? Any word? I want to make a decision on whether to upgrade my PC and/or get an Oculus Rift S.

While I agree with your optimism that it's good to see Frontier showcasing VR (especially after Braben's "VR is a fad" comment and the poor consideration for VR with recent stuff like the FSS) don't forget that this is just Stephen wanting to show something he's excited about. I'm sure he has to get general approval for his livestream ideas but I doubt they reflect any particular statement of intent from Frontier.

Yes, but if I knew it was only a year I would be happy to stick with my CV1 (which run at SS 2.0 is marvellous).
Ahhh, I thought you were a VR virgin. Nevermind then! (Though the Rift S is a really nice headset IMO, at least the the price I got mine for.)

No, an old lag. I have been using my CV1 for nearly three years now in both XPlane and ED. It has worked faultlessly and is one of the best tech purchases I have ever made, certainly in terms of the number of hours of flight/space sim entertainment I have had out of it.

With the New Era creeping closer, it's good to see Frontier making a fuss of VR.

And the Thargoid base was an excellent choice for an excursion in the SRV.

Though If I were picking a ship for showing off VR in multicrew, I wouldn't pick the Phantom. I got rather tired of looking at the back of Malic's pilot's seat. An AspX would have been a much better choice.
