Frontier, what sorry?

You glossed over the fact there won't be a new theme in Alpha 2 and instead we're getting a few new walls pieces and items. You said that work has been focussed on the terrain tools and what not - but that's a separate bunch of people. I felt like maybe you could have offered us an explanation during the livestream.

I love the work you guys do and I've loved the livestreams you've done so far but today featured 40 minutes of forum questions which you could have gone through here. I'd be happier with a shorter stream if it meant we get more focus on the things we want to actually see and maybe a bit more info on the things we won't get in the alpha that we were expecting to play with.

After all, so many teasers have been thrown our way about the next theme and that's over the course of weeks.

With that being said, I want to say (before anyone jumps on me for being a negative nancy) that I am very excited for the next update and to get my hands on those terrain tools - just please offer us a little more information and make those livestreams a little more pacey.

I agree. And I do wanna remember there have been talking about 1-2 new themes confirmed for Alpha 2. So this was kind of chocking news that we won't have any new themes to digestion the new tools with at all now. [bored]

I thought that was a bit odd as well. I figured we would at least get the fairytale theme. Maybe they're not finished with that theme though.

Eh, could be a possible chance that they want to reveal a new theme in their last stream before Alpha 2 is released.
They did mention that one of the archways works nicely with a certain theme.

I think they are saving the Fairytale and Sci Fi themes for alpha 3. Maybe they are still working on more items for these themes, that are not ready yet.

I can understand that the new themes might not be ready - we did buy access to an alpha, we knew what we were paying for. But, we were told that there won't be a new theme in alpha 2 and told only that. My issue is that they didn't give us any information. Why won't a new theme be in alpha 2? When can we expect one? Perhaps a trademark Nintendo "Please understand" would be nice.

My frustration is that they're offering simple scenery pieces that will appeal to people who commit hours upon hours to creating content for YouTube. Yes, new and simple wall pieces will help those creators. They make their livelihood off of their videos. I don't have the same amount of time to play Planet Coaster however. Terrain tools in PC are looking bloody fantastic, it's got to be said. But they can only really be used to compliment what we're already making with our rides and scenery. I doubt YouTubers will be able to keep inventing new and fantastic builds until Alpha 3. If that's what they're banking on then I fear they're making a mistake (if say, they are holding content back to keep up momentum on Youtube and social media).

Finally, I can't help but feel frustrated, given the lack of info, that they kept showing us the fairytale concept art and even the other day, the fairytale themed coaster car. Don't do that and then slyly slip in a 'oh by the way, no new themes in alpha 2' - haha. [squeeeeee]

Hey guys,

Sorry if you felt the answer was glossed over, that's certainly not the intention and the reason we wanted to address the question.

There are no new themes being added into Alpha 2. The development team are working really hard to prioritise their content and make sure it's done in the right way. We know there will be additional themes in launch but where in the alpha/beta phase they come in is yet to be confirmed.

We're really hoping you'll enjoy all the other cool stuff, there was plenty of new toys to play with and my personal favorite was the particle effects. ;)

Well. We will receive new parts, but no new themes.

I was a bit surprised too, but then we had a long discussion about information policy and they showed that #infrontierwetrust might be a good idea here too.

If you guys get all the themes and objects in the alpha you will have done it all by the time the full game is released lol. Got to save something for the proper release!

Though off topic, speaking of Nintendo...

I really want to try and make those jagged background mountains from Super Mario World / New Super Mario Bros U

Also Zac are we just continue questions for tomorrow in the same thread as last week or is a new one being made?

You can have something early, incomplete, and frustrating to use, or you can have faith that Frontier know what they're doing and leave it with them.

I reckon all the terrain tools will be more than enough to keep me occupied for 6-8 weeks.

There's nothing wrong with asking why when we were (not told) but led to believe something was getting ready to be released. Sometimes a little more has to be said beside it's alpha so be happy with what you get.

Yes it's alpha and we paid a heck of a lot to play alpha as well.

With that said Zac came on and gave a perfectly reasonable answer.

With the above in mind Frontier needs to be a little more aware about the timing of their teasing. When the masses are gearing up for a release and scraping for every clue available that might not be the best time to tease with something that's not in the release. At the very least a little disclaimer that the tease is not for the next alpha phase. remember that hype is a double edge sword. you want us all hyped up, telling our friends, posting out there our excitement. At the same time you don't want to take the wind from our sails over a mis-understanding either.

Anyway looking forward to playing with the new toys.

I understand why you have to stop putting new items in game, maybe they need to work together nice color/texture selector and it would complicate the texture layers in the objects, as it is many layers of textures it is more complicated system.

As in Sims 4 their explanation as the game was already released they would not change, because there are so many objects already in game that would need a lot of extensive re-work.

Of course this might not be the reason PC is doing this delay, but it could be a guess. (I hope ;D)

While I want more themes asap I also understand and I actually think it is good to save many themes for final release so we will get "wow" experience with lots of new nice goods.

Im actually amazed they never adressed the recolorable walls questions yet. But like you said, hopefully that will still come.
They even talked about building a main street in the stream tonight... And ofcourse we can already make an awesome mainstreet, but being able to have the building in different colors would be SO much more amazing!!

I can't be too bothered about not getting another theme yet actually. We get some new items and i view this whole alpha period as a big bug-testing phase. My guess was, if the first 2 themes work as planned, so will the other themes. So i can imagine working on the rest of the themes doesn't have priority as it no longer needs a lot of feedback from us.

I'm gonna take a stab in the dark & think that the current "white" walls will be re-color-able at some point in the future. ( because it seems logical )

I'd rather things be ready & polished before tossing them our way, unlike that other game that seems to make new bugs w/ each update, oops.

It's like they have no one testing for issues before they toss new updates around. ANYWAY, it was nice we got some surprises this live-stream ;-)
