James they did say the xyz and the new move tool was influenced by us. At least the priority level.
ahhh yes, so they did, thank you.
i mention this in this "forum vs livestream" thread because, for myself, i was very excited about CH and very keen to ENGAGE with the designers and devs as implied in the process of purchasing CH. The experience on the forums and specifically CH has not been at all consistent with that implication, and consequently my burning urge to get involved has slowly dwindled to more of a "oh well i'll just wait until December then".
But it's OUR fault, not Frontier's.
Some people get mad when they don't get what they want, and the Frontier Community management needs to have a very strong triage process to try to handle our expectations, and i think they do:
1) Releasing that idea very soon (2-6 weeks)? = say nothing but build a surprise reveal video, poll or images to keep the hype train running.
2) Working on it, due 6+ weeks away, and it's obvious that we simply cannot NOT be doing it? = keep them guessing for a week or two and then say "it's coming but we cannot say when" and then say nothing until #1
3) Working on it, due 6+ weeks away, and it's NOT obvious which way we will go? = say nothing
4) Not working on it yet/ever? = say nothing
So. . . mostly, say nothing. the only clues we can/will get consistently are "hype train reveal" clues, and "not for a long time" clues
I cannot think of any other way to handle us (the community) because we throw tantrums like spoiled brats when they:
* tell us anything and make us wait
* tell us anything and then it takes too long
* tell us anything and then change their minds
* tell us anything we don't like
imagine the absolute carnage if they actually showed us their development road map?? i shudder to think. there would be a few people clapping loudly, but utterly drowned out by a tidal wave of outraged indignation and frustration and "constructive advice". we are our own worst enemies in this communication situation.
so now they tell us almost nothing, and we have caused this.
the livestreams have turned into "forum question answering" because WE ASKED FOR THAT.
In the first one, Ed enthused his way through it, not an easy task, and then copped a pile of aggro telling him he should have told us more and answered our questions.
so now he's doing that, and we are complaining again.
if they tell us stuff we complain.
if they don't tell us stuff, we complain.
if they give us what we ask for, we complain.
if they don't, we complain.
and by "complain" i mean "give constructive feedback designed to help the improve the game according to our personal opinions"
coasterbuff is the voice of reason, our wise old owl. we need to relax, wait, trust Frontier and smile and clap when they do stuff we like. we must make it more of a win for them to tell us stuff.
if they want to know something, for real, they could add a weekly poll re our feature requests, Example: "Which of these would you rather have in Alpha 3, if you're forced to choose?" that would be real interesting. or (if forum can handle it), give us 10 to choose from and we get 3 votes.
tldr =
* Frontier really will not tell us much (but hopefully they listen a lot);
* they don't have much choice really, unless we change our behaviour;
* CH is never going to be as interactive as we hoped (unless we REALLY change our behaviour);
* coasterbuff is King lol.
Lastly:
* Early Access Alpha is awesomeness, i could not wait to get my hands on the game and i am super happy with it.
* i think Ed delivered a top notch livestream, because he was very much trying to deliver what the forums demanded (more specific answers to specific recurring questions) and he kept the pace up and the stream on focus. And he's so enthusiastic! What a legend, i wonder how he gets ready before the stream? Coffee? Caffeine tablets? Something more exciting? Perhaps an hour of PC?
Superb job Ed, thank you!
