Frontier: When will this game provide the Frontier/FFE experience - when will it be 'there' ??

We all know the sort of game we would love to play in Elite Dangerous. And the majority here would probably settle for a similar level of gameplay experience to that obtained from Frontier or First Encounters.

So ... not a strange question to ask I would think:-

I was wondering if anyone at Frontier might be able to tell me when (roughly) Elite Dangerous will be able to provide the same level of experience that is provided in Frontier and/or First Encounters? By that I mean planet landings, numerous station/base types, full set of ships, shipbased newsfeeds, wide variety of military missions, passengers, crew, face to face communications, external views - that sort of thing.

Obviously like many other people I want to be able to actually sit down, really get into the immersion, enjoy this game and get a lot out of it. And that just isnt possible for me at the moment the way it stands. So I would love to know when that sort of gameplay will be possible.

I know the game will 'never be finished', so I deliberately didnt ask "when will this game be finished?". I am simply asking when will this game be about 'there' ? We cant go on forever in an endless cycle, I just want to play the thing properly. I am sure many other people are wondering the same.

So how about it Frontier, you must have some kind of idea !??! And please don't say SOON™ lol.

I am very sorry to say "Not until you are knee deep in SC actually playing content." I with all honesty hate to say it but ED will probably be the game you only play when SC servers go down and even then you'll be so bored in ED compared to SC you'll just decide to wait. I have been here from the beginning of beta. I am addicted to ED somehow. But even as I log in I know I'm just going to be mostly bored out of my mind. As I have really done everything in ED and with no content or stories or mini quest lines or mission lines at all. I still sign in every day and try to play wishing and hoping everything is miraculously fixed and there will be content. And for the life of me I cannot figure out why I still do it. I guess it is just hope. And I really want ED to be an actual contender for my time. But alas FD is slipping fast.

As far as I understood, in chronological order this will be something like :
New ships
More missions ?
Wings ( travel in pack with NPC or other players )
Some kind of external view ( through camera drones as it seems )
Walking around your ship
Be able to get out of your ship in space
Walking around stations
FPS gameplay / Boarding other ships ?
Planetary landing on deserted planets
Planetary landing on inhabited planets
Driving around wheeled vehicles
Safaris


All that in the coming years.

Nats, Frontier will not reply to you and with good reason. From their perspective the game was "there" when it was released just before Christmas.

I've not played the game since just after it was released and I think it is a fair assumption that major updates, the type of sufficient depth to entice me back, will take many months. I'm not even sure that wings will be enough for me, tbh. However, I remain hopeful for the long term future of the game and I'm happy that other people, especially pre-release testers, are enjoying the game.

I'd say check back in a year, at least. Probably more if you consider that even what we have now still needs lots of bugfixing and polish.

is pretty much what I want to see enhanced/added to the game. That, plus walking around our ships, and expanded exploration content (actual surface scans where you fly around the planet and map it out or scan for interesting areas, maybe vehicle planetary exploration).
