Frontier...

...you have made an epic game! :D

I'm a totally new CMDR as I've been Sony console bound for a while, and despite following the updates on this since the Kickstarter days, I've only just got to play it.

4 hours introduction to it last night and I'm hooked already, you should all be very proud of the work.

My night started with the training missions during which I immediately killed myself by crashing into an asteroid by pressing the wrong button and boosting up not forwards. Take two and I started getting the hang of it, launched and landed in the next mission fine but something just didn't click for me with the controls. Messed about with various things and have settled for now on a HOTAS-esque setup... right stick pitch/roll, left stick yaw/vertical (I might even try putting throttle on the stick tonight so it's literally mini-HOTAS).

Once that was configured I retried the launch/landing mission and found that I could much more confidently throw the ship into the slot and onto the pad without too much hassle and at a better speed. Onto combat training... I died. Then I beat the first Eagle target but got killed by the guys backup. Then I died on the first Eagle again. I decided that I'll come back to combat as I need to learn the fire groups, power management more I think so with 2 hours gone decided to fire up the actual game. Enter CMDR FiveFootNinja...

In my first couple of hours I've been to three systems, done a few basic courier missions, one search and retrieve and now have about 250k cr in the bank, winged up with a friend (and then crashed into him a bit), managed to escape an interdiction without really knowing what I was doing (but hey, I'll take it as I had mission cargo on board). I've not blown up yet in the actual game so I'm taking that as a mini-victory, I've also managed to land at each station/pad with only a couple of minor bumping around moments. All in all a good night's flying.

At 1:30am I remembered it was a work night so begrudgingly drifted off to bed dreaming of tonights adventures.

My plan now is to:
- Go back to combat training and get that sorted
- Decide a plan of action regarding next destination to explore
- Decide plan of action re: ship/upgrades
- Find out how to bounty hunt and do some of that

Fly safe commanders.

Glad you're enjoying it ;)

It can be difficult to work out what's important & what can wait a while, there's a lot to take on initially. But the start is the best bit IMO, and the start (loaned) sidewinder is the best ship to learn & make mistakes in because you don't need to worry about the insurance cost so much.

Take your time, learn your basic flight skills, now is the time to make those mistakes & learn from them.

Thanks!

I totally forgot something for my list but I think I should probably at least try and planetary landing/SRV trip :) So much to do!

Making some more progress. Now got myself an Eagle for bounty hunting and getting involved in the CGs. Also my general control of these things is improving, pleased with this docking...

Your careful approach will work well with the larger ships, they have more momentum & can drift a lot more than the sidewinder or eagle.

Worth bearing in mind that you can get the sidewinder through the slot in any orientation, although lining up for the slot is good practice. Stick to the green side if you can (green in, green out).
