Frontiers Financial Report is Out 👀

Frontier posted their financial report for FY23 - it is looking like we will get packs next year too, yay!! They say Ongoing into 2024, so it's yet to be determined if that's the full year next year or just 1-2 pack.

Here is the report

Those are good news! But I'm still waiting for the cooler pdf with images and graphics, where is that one? 🤔

And why would they open a Tik Tok account now if they planned to end support in two months?

That's a pretty good point. Even more, why would they open a Tik Tok account now just for the last 2 packs of FY24? It looks like DLC support will reach next Christmas and probably part of 2025.

Unfortunately this doesn't really confirm, or even imply anything, and I think a lot of people are eager to extrapolate beyond what's actually being told to us. All that's said is that "more [PDLC is] planned during this financial year." This financial year started in July, so this could still be a perfectly true statement if the Oceania Pack is our last pack. I don't think that's the case, I think at the very least a winter pack is pretty much guaranteed, and I'm certainly not saying DLC beyond that can't or won't happen, but speculating about anything going into calendar year 2024 is just as much of a shot in the dark as it was before this report.

Or, in short, 🤷‍♀️ guess we'll wait and see

Very good News about PZ within the financial report. I think the game has built Up a Solid and loyal Player base which is not hold up so often by Simulation Games after such a Long Time (Cities:Skylines and Sims would be further examples).

Sure, it guarantees nothing but it directly mentions that PZ still belongs to the flagship games of the Portfolio which was questioned (by some people) within the Last months.

Well, firstly this Financial Report is pretty disastrous for Frontier. They reported an operating loss of £26.6 million which even if you discount the non-cash intangibles still means they lost £4.6 million in FY23 vs £6.7 million profit in 2022.

Secondly, Frontier is acquiring Complex Games officially like I expected after they announced the closure of their Foundry.

"In the medium to long term, the growing development team in Winnipeg will add to Frontier's game portfolio through the application of Frontier's Select, Develop, Launch, & Nurture strategy, which will support Frontier's continued delivery of sustainable and profitable growth."

So this means more in-house resources including potentially for supporting and nurturing PZ.

"We consider ourselves to be leaders in CMS games, as evidenced by our success with Planet Coaster, Planet Zoo, Jurassic World Evolution and Jurassic World Evolution 2. This is a market space where we know we can find opportunities to deliver genre-leading games, and we will continue to focus on this segment. We are in full development for a CMS game for release in FY25 and we have another CMS game scheduled for FY26."

So not only is a new Planet game likely coming in FY25 (meaning November 2024), but possibly another one is scheduled for November 2025. I wonder if this is potentially PZ2?

"Jurassic World Evolution 2 and Planet Zoo performed especially well, each supported by four new PDLC packs releasing in FY23, alongside free content. In FY24 new PDLC packs and free content for both Jurassic World Evolution 2 and Planet Zoo have already been released, with more planned during this financial year."

And here it is, PZ is placed in the same category as JWE2 suggesting the two are doing similar profit-wise. It doesn't specify how many more packs in FY24 (just like last year's financial report was silent on that). But considering that Frontier is currently operating at a loss, PZ remains profitable, they opened a new Tik Tok account to promote the game, they'd be extraordinarily stupid to discontinue support in 2023 especially since the new potential Planet Game isn't out until late 2024. All signs overall point to continued support in 2024, possibly to the end of the year.

I mean, is this really that surprising? PZ has been a consistent money maker for Frontier, it would be stupid for them to cut support any time soon. Regardless, it's still nice to get confirmation that support will continue.
In my mind it's not surprising at all. Jwe2 and Pz are their best performers, and I think we will probably see support until their new game in 2025, and maybe even 1-2 packs then if we are really lucky. But I think it's important for people to see it with their own eyes. It gives some reassurance and also I'm tired of the doom and gloom "we need this animal as we only have 1 pack left'.

The operating loss was due to them closing down Foundry and F1 manager underperforming yeah? I struggle with numbers the most. If they remain steady in FY24 then hopefully they won't see such a loss again.

I don't think we will see PZ2 so quickly. Aquariums maybe? I think we will see a more significant gap between pz1 and 2, if they do a second.

But yeah you're right about that being released in November next year. Time will tell as to what it is really.

Agree, if my company was needing to up it's revenue I wouldn't be dropping one of the two main income generators. I'd be doing what I can to push sales. I have marketing and social media management experience and I can absolutely see why they're jumping into TT, it can drive some good income and great audience reach, but only if you're engaging correctly, I no longer use tt myself but I am hoping the absolutely best for their channel. I hope it brings in more profit.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them keep the packs up into next year. I don't see them dropping the packs while they're trying to recover from the loss caused by foundry. It's speculation from me, so take it with a grain of salt.

Just because I get confused - in terms of this thread FY23 ended in June (30.06.2023) as per this report. We are now in FY24, with FY25 starting next July (01.07.2024).

I think FY Always ends at 31st of May. So we are now in FY2024 until 31st of May 2024.
