frustrated disabled alpha tester

hi all

I am a disabled gamer who was incredibly excited about being a part of the Alpha testing phase of ED! To my frustration though my voice attack software which I use for every other game I have played isn't being picked up by the ED interface which means I cannot play the game.

I am a quadriplegic which means I do not have the use of any of my limbs and therefore I am reliant upon pieces of software such as voice attack to enable me to play games in conjunction with a mouth mouse control.

I realise FD have much bigger issues to deal with at the moment but please could I ask that at some point could look into this problem and help me resolve this.

If voice attack won't work can anybody suggest alternative software packages I might be able to try. Using DragonDictate will not work for those of you who will suggest that as this uses complete words not individual keypresses!

I have just discovered a thread on this topic in the alpha testing Forum! I didn't want to put it in there in case I was taking time away from game development which is why I put it in the general forum. Now I know other people want to use it I will keep an eye on this thread!

Hi Excalibur, someone elsewhere suggested running Voice Attack in Administrative mode which fixed it for them. Hope it works for you!

The developers might miss it in the alpha forums. I will copy your post to the DDF, where it will definitely be seen (if no one has already).

I've mentioned GlovePie elsewhere on these boards.

GlovePie can map any input to any number of outputs, and one of those inputs just happens to be voice. Takes a little bit of scripting to get the most out of it, but it's not that hard.

It's a really powerful piece of software, and actually has myriad uses outside of voice recognition that might also be useful to you (it's possible to remap TrackIR head tracking to move your mouse for example)... and it's completely free.

I've just given this a try with the Alpha.. LOVE IT!
I've got voice commands cycling targets and for turning stealth on and off.

hi guys

Okay I'm getting really annoyed now because I cannot scroll across the top of my panels with voice attack. I can do everything else by voice apart from this. If I don't get this sorted I won't be able to play any more!

I have tried to 3 different key options but nothing seems to be working for this action.

as the FDhave made the panels such an integral part of the game if I cannot use them properly that means no more elite dangerous.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Hi Keith,

Have you tried putting pauses in between each command?

When I wrote a macro to lower/raise gear for VA, I had the same issue. I put a 0.1 sec pause between each command and it worked fine.

It might need to be 0.2 if you suffer frame-rate issues.

Hi guys

Okay I have just tried some of your suggestions by increasing the duration thatVoice attack is pressing the key down for and adding a pause to multiple presses but it's still not scroll in across the top of the panels.

Please could somebody else try scrolling across the panels by voice attack and let me have their profile in a PM so that I can see what settings you are using.

I'm sure it is something I have done but I have tried all the settings in VA without any luck. What's more baffling it to the fact that it's doing every other action apart from left and right across the top of the panels which is quite annoying as without these two actions will mean I'll no longer be able to play.

Stick with it Excalibur - I'm not sure that the developers ever envisaged that the whole game would be played purely through voice control so I get the hint that some of the commands don't give the option to bind keys.

Clearly that might be a total game halter from your viewpoint.

but I suspect that with a bit of flexibility and attention from FD you will get everything you want. I personally would want to see that.

By the way the game crashes quite a bit at the moment so you may be saving your self from just a different type of frustration.:D

I'm just getting really frustrated because I have bound the keys to the relevant key bindings in the keyboard customisation screen and all the other keys I have programmed in voice attack have worked perfectly first time out apart from these two keys!

I have originally programmed them to work on the arrow keys but somebody on the forum said the arrow keys don't work so I reallocated them to the A and D key And neither works. When I change the A and D key to scroll up and down the menu they work perfectly so I'm not sure what's going on with the Side to side Panel scroll.

It's just really annoying because I was hoping to be able to test the game and add a disabled persons perspective but I can't!

Do you mean switching between the left and right panels, or pages within the panel?
