frustration when you forget to sell you data and die..

just some rant.. i came back to Colonia from Beagle Point scanning many "life forms", sold my planet data to cartographics, earned a lot of money, relaxed a bit, took some ground missions just for fun to see if updates did change anything while i was away.. of course i DIE on foot and i see the message: losses - organic data 7 million cr.. YOU KNOW.. i have no words to describe how i felt.. i forgot about this TINY thing, i had some data on my ship and i forgot to sell them to vista genomics.. no reminder anywhere like man.. you have something important! and in a blink of an eye you lost it..

i got really frustrated, many of you know this feeling, when you do not want to look at this game for a while.. and it is not about the money. it is about the meaning of all exploration. i spent hours scanning all these botanicals, and now i feel like an idiot i was doing this for nothing..

Lost quite a bit myself a few weeks ago, burned up on a hot tin neutron roof. It actually did me a favour as I realised I dislike the tedious plant scanning and data collecting so shall simply not bother.

i take revenge on the system or camp. a few place grade 2 mines goes along way :devilish: yes you get fined for it, but most of thoose are pitance ( don't tell FD that thou.)

IIRC you can only make only once a ticket to get back stuff after ship destruction (In order to prevent player abusing tickets).

So for only a 7 millions loss you shouldn't use that card, it would be a wasted opportunity.
No, mine should be about whole system is a bug. However, not even sure if it got posted :D - says "can't display". My point is, that to lose planets scan data you have 1 opportunity - ship exploded. While to lose bio scans you have 3 opportunities - ship + srv with u on board + uself. That does not seem correct.

Wow - 7 million. ... I can see why you're so upset .... A whole 7 million ..,
But 7 million of Exobiology is a lot!
Considering how poorly it pays, I would be annoyed if I lost a single Bacterium Acies (50,000cr without first sampling bonus) let alone 7 million!

Once I lost 400M cartographic data by being silly and being destroyed by an NPC (!) and after the inital shock I laughed at it and decided to re-do the same trip again to rescan the same planets over the following weekend or so.

Exobiology is another beast altogether, and I would be extremely upset with myself for losing the data!

edit: typos

Yep, 7M in ExoBio Data means alot of time spent sampling.

I suggested during Alpha already to have some kind of indication for Biological Sampling Data held, so people could make a sound risk assessment or make a call when it's simply time to seek a Vista Genomics to sell.

With UC Data, at least there's the Option of assessing it via 3rd Party tools like EDSM.

But with Exobioligical Sampling Data? Only two locations tell you the value/amount of your scans :
a) the Vista Genomics sales screen
b) the rebuy screen

Not a good design in its current shape. Unsurprising, since it's a "stable Alpha" at the moment - but it definitely should change.

A means to sell that Data on Carriers is currently missing as well.
(and I sure hope it's not one of those infamous FDev "we don't want to take the enjoyment away from Explorers having to return to civilization" moments... because it sure smells like one of those moments :p )

That's where I take issue with it too-- there's no way to see how much data you're carrying (when you're not already at the Vista Genomics desk). Not even buried in a menu. Any sort of simple indicator or reminder would be useful.

Quite right, other deaths should be more painful for scan data too.

Just to make things consistent :devilish:

When I am out collecting bio samples, I use a spread sheet all the time. I know exactly the value of the samples I have collected. Of course, an in-game list would be more convenient.

I have mixed feelings about this. Biological data is collected on foot, and you seem to carry it in on your person in order to sell it... so as far as video game things can "make sense", it makes sense that regardless how you die you lose the data. Or to put it another way: if your body is succumbs to lethal force the data is lost, regardless of where your body is at that moment. I also like some increased risk in exploration because to me it doesn't feel like there is nearly enough.

But at the same time, the payouts for both exploration and exobiology are so extremely low for time spent that it's hard to justify the profession be the only one where it's likely a player could lose an entire year's worth of payouts in a single death.

As far as the OP's specific issue, this isn't one that is just exobiology. Exploration data has had the same problem all along. Even other profession's have the same problem to a lesser degree. If you forget to turn in your "done stuff" before leaving a station, and you die out there before you remember, then you lose it. It would be nice to have some sort of reminder that you've got unfinished business before you click that LAUNCH button.
