FSD charging while in FSS, its possible!

I don't know how it happened, but i started recording, as soon as i realized what was happening. FSS should be able to start with fsd charging and with max throttle, why the hell not?

If anyone knows how to re-create this, please share.

First guess - you were sitting close to still, hit the Frame Shift button and then whatever you have bound to the FSS, which opened, while you were charging. You'll overheat like a chow chow in a sweater charging frame shift at a stand-still.

Depends on ship and distance to stellar bodies.

I sit with a charged drive often while waiting for fighters to dock.

Tried this.
At least on my setup it works the other way around: if I push the buttons to open FSS & charge hyperdrive in rapid succession (in that order), I can use FSS while hyperdrive is charging.

I surelly was close to still but i dont know what happened. I use a macro to open and close the fss, so something happened there, but only happened once, didn't manage to do it again.

Edit: i just tested. I was wrong. So my guess was off and i rather remove it. Rather, what i got to:

1. The effect at the start of the video i am able to reproduce. I first have to activate the FSS, then while the screen still is changing, activate the FSD. Apparently the ship still takes normal input while the FSS is not fully initialized, but as the process of switching to the FSS was started, the FSS will be displayed.
2. If i don't touch the throttle while doing this, i can not trigger the jump any more from inside the FSS.
3. If i move the throttle forward in the same half a second where i can activate the FSD charge while opening the FSS, i do mange to reproduce the sequence of the video. That is, if you pressed a button to leave the FSS just before the jump happened in the video.

So the complete squence is:
  • Aim your ship to the destination system.
  • Activate FSS.
  • While the FSS screen is displayed but not all elements are initialized yet, hit the button for charging the FSD and move the throttle fully forward.
  • Wait till the FSD is displayed to be fully charged.
  • Leave the FSS.
  • Jump happens.

I don't see much use to exploit this for your advantage, so i guess it's not critical. But it's a nice catch. :)

This sounds really cool.

EDIT: I tried it and it works, apart from the throttle, which doesn't really matter. FSD is charged while looking inside FSS and upon exiting, FSD is ready to throttle up and go right away. I hope devs leave it this way as it is something not so big of a deal.
