FSD grades need to be improved by 1 level for every ship in the game.

This might as well be calling Elite: Jumping. Also it would be nice to be able to use more than 5 tons of fuel per jump.

If you have Horizons you'll be able to squeeze some more jump range out of your FSD once 2.1 is released in about a month.

Besides, raising each ship's FSD class by 1 could have some unintended side effects.... such as making the Imperial Courier the longest range explorer ship in the game

Hey it would give the courier it's much needed niche.

Courier is a very useful combat ship. It's shields are stronger than a Vulture's, along with similar agility and reasonable firepower. It fits right into its price range, and is quite fun to fly in combat!

Edit: Nevermind, Vulture has somewhat stronger shields, but from what I remember the Courier doesn't have the same power management issues the Vulture had. It's still a very capable combat ship for its price.

It should still not be Elite: Jumping. 20 jumps to get somewhere in the bubble is ridiculous. A rated FSD combat ships should get 20 but have low fuel tanks. Multi roles should get 30 but have moderate fuel reserves. Explorers should get 50 but have a lot of fuel reserves. That should be the trade off.

While it may not be Elite: Jumping, ED is kind-of a sim. Space is big, travel takes a while, and it makes for some gameplay as well if you want to be better at travelling around. The other extreme of course is the "rooms in space" concept that is just plain wrong in ED. Personally, I think the balance is just fine with this aspect of the game. And that includes time for in-system travel as well. After all, what would long distance smuggling mean if it's only half a dozen jumps to Robigo? Or the Hutton trip would become nothing special. Nah - leave it alone.

Was always wondering how you select higher class components than ship can fit in Coriolis...

Space is big. Our nearest star system is 4.x light years away. I think it's pretty astonishing that we can even travel to that system. FSD is fine.

Pro tip: Don't try exploration. :D

I can't. I try to answer this regularly but honestly... This, again. It crops up every week!?

Mods can we get a megathread for jump range by any chance? Not sure it will fix the repeat threads but it may help fix my sanity :D

To the original poster - Not strictly your fault but jump range gets spoken about very very very regularly in different forums, wormholes, jump gates, individual buffs, general buffs, mass reductions, FSD boosts, etc etc etc

Due to the better power management in the Courier it can slot more Shield Boosters in utility slots and actually gains stronger shields than Vulture does. I tested this in Coriolis.io and I simply couldn't match the shield strength of the Courier with the Vulture (ended up with about 540 shields on the Courier while the Vulture was hard pressed to even reach 500). Not without making significant sacrifices in other areas for the Vulture. But, as others rightfully pointed out in a thread I made regarding Courier vs Vulture, the Courier uses class 2 weapons which suffer significant penalties against larger ships, while the Vultures class 3 weapons do good damage on larger ships and excellent damage on smaller ships. So damage wise the Vulture clearly wins out.

Boo Hoo, travelling long distances in a game that attempts to accurately re create our galaxy, who woulda thunk it. If you can't remain focused for more than 5 minutes take more Adderall.

When I'm exploring I don't care about jump range beyond the 1,000 LY mark. When I'm trying to get to my next mission... 30 jumps is infuriatingly boring. An entire class of ships (combat ships) is locked out for me and I suspect the same for many players, just because of the ridiculous jump ranges offered. I don't care if the galaxy is big. If you don't want to increase jump ranges, decrease spool up time for high waking out of SC (normal flight has to be the same due to balance issues), and make the loading screen only take as long as your system needs to instance the next system. I'd just like to stop staring at my screen waiting for something to happen.

Got me thinking about the the Vulture / Courier.... (Note using the MC on both awaiting the next release adding the large MC.)

Elite: Hyperspace.

I do think some ships need a serious jump range buff. But the other end of the scale is fine IMHO.
Space is huge, and i enjoy the feeling of hugeness. But spending ages just jumping to get to the next CG or meet friends, or if there's a war going on you need to be at, is just a poor game design.

Of course, Autopilot would help too, but I could be burned at the stake for mentioning that.. Lol

*ducks*

Spending ages is a bit exaggerated if the other side of the bubble is already never more than half an hour away.
