FSD Interdiction.

Why is it sometimes when you're interdicted, even though you follow the onscreen cursor to perfection, the enemy (another player) interdicts you? This has happened to me on many occasions that no matter how well I do in the FSD Interdiction game, they always get me and normally blast the crap out of me, seeing as they're in an engineered ship and I'm not. Is this a hack? Or is this an engineered, fail safe FSD Interdiction perk?

Okay, I'll caveat this with 'I am no expert' and that I play on PC (I don't knwo if the console versions are different), but it think is related to instancing when relating to others 'real' players. Basically you are in the the same 'instance' but lag/latancy/delay (call it what you will) means you are not playing the same game at the same time, so you think you are doing well, but to their machine you are not. So you ultiamtely fail. Really, don't blame yourself unless you were accidently aiming for the station reticle instead fo the escape one, which I have never done  .

I don't know the fine the detail, but the game works by peer-to-peer (P2P) with one machine being the primary node. If you are that node, you stand a better chance, if you are not, then you are at the mercy of any delay. I have experienced the same thing before, I even submitted on 3 bars for a faster recovery, but then came spinning out as I 'lost' the interdiction. It's just a side affect/risk of the the way the net code works, and a reason I am happy they never came down hard on combat logging as the system is not really a level playing field.

On the bright side, P2P is also the reason you don't pay a monthly subscription, so yay!

Don't fight a player's interdiction, you'll never beat it. If you insist on playing in Open, practice quickly selecting a system from the Navigation menu. As soon as interdiction starts, quickly select a system, put four pips to ENG and two to SYS. Immediately put throttle to zero (give in to the interdiction) and once you drop boost as often as your ship allows to get some distance. As soon as your FSD has cooled down, hyperspace to the selected system. You should be far enough away from the other player to not take much damage if they open up on you.

If you give in to an interdiction (zero throttle) the person interdicting you should drop at the same time as you but they'll have limited manouvrability for a few seconds, which gives you time to boost away and jump out.

Thanks for the input folks. I suppose I really should just drop out of Open space into PvE. It's not that I don't enjoy PvP, I do, but I've still not got Horizons, so really, when it comes to PvP up against engineered ships, I'm screwed if I participate. Now that I know there's no way to beat an interdiction, courtesy of lag etc, the drop throttle to zero is a great idea and warp out asap (which I've done in the past). I think I'll just go PvE.

To be honest, I have horizons and I still can't escape people who interdict with the sole aim to kill you. So I don't bother. I submit to the interdiction and then say something amusing to them on comms. If they're a murderer they're going to kill you regardless of what you do/say. If they're a pirate, or feeling kind, then they will let you go.

I have been interdicted and got away with my ship far, far more times than I've been blown up. But it all depends on where you are really, and the luck of the draw of who's interdicting you ;)
