Their rating... E,D,C,B,A... What difference is there between them?

I cant confirm this for the current build so take this with a grain of salt

So.........On just about every previous build............. the class and rating of an interdictor not only effects range but also how "easy" it is to interdict a ship. I haven't tested this in weeks but on the previous builds this was definitely true, at least for NPC ships.

It was a little harder to quantify when it comes to human pilots so i cant state that part as an absolute. But as far as NPC ships were concerned, i had friends (plural) who were GUARANTEED to lose interdictions against certain ships with certain ranks with the B4 interdictor. The A4 interdictor changed that to guaranteed wins.

There are also some other mechanics involved in interdictions that the community at large seems unaware of but i wont go into that here

The source of this info is thousands of interdictions with a dozen different players while grinding lvl 5 powerplay more times than i care to mention

Again, I havent tested this recently on the current build so take it with a grain of salt

Range at which you can trigger the interdiction. And I think the higher rating ones also seem to have more tolerance for the difference in relative speeds between you and your target.

But I could be wrong about that last part.

Well, I may as well get an A-rated one.

I turn off the interdictor when weapons are deployed, so...

Cost was never an issue. More curiosity.

As in whether or not you are traveling faster than your target? It always seems like I have to be traveling faster than the other ship in order for the interdictor to trigger.

That part of the game with the interdictions, minigame, shipmasses and speed, distance you can interdict and interdictor class / size was coded by a rogue AI and even the developers of the game don't know how it works, that's what i strongly believe ;)

I dunno I used some lower rating ones on occasion (Generally only whenever the station I outfit at doesn't have the A rated) But there seem to be times with the lower rating ones where you have to be going much faster than your target before it will let you interdict while higher rating ones you can be doing the same speed and it will let you interdict.
