FSD range extenders/boosters

As we got a shield and hull boosters a nice thing would be a possibility to put in a FSD boosters. Then we will choose not only between combat capabilities but there will be another factor - range.
Ofcourse explorers would be happy for that.
What do you think about it?

As an explorer, I intentionally don't have a massive jump range. I like visiting as many systems as possible, popping my ADS and seeing what's there... It's not about the destination as much as the journey for me.

This is something I have been thinking also. FSD boosters would make outfitting those small range combat vessels like FDL, Vulture and Viper even more interesting cause now instead only balancing between power limits you would have choice between combat performance and jump range also.

But how to implement these FSD boosters?

I think best would be to put them in utility slots and work similar to shield boosters because that would be place where most compromises would need to be make. Do you take 2 shield boosters or 2 FSD boosters. Are you willing to give up your chaff or point defence. This would be great way to give up even more different setups.

As same as shield or hull boosters. Of course we can discuss there should be limit of boosting modules or not. Sugesstion is open ;)

I think FSD boosters would be more relevant for traders actually. Exploring is not about getting as far away as you possibly can. Trading in other hand you probably would love to have a trade route that only requires you to jump once, for maximum money/less time. So if your trade route will require you to fly for 20 minutes, a booster that adds 5 light years of jump range that could possibly cut your travel time with half.

Jump range is boosted by reducing mass. You have to look at your modules and make the right choices. Sort modules by mass in the store and downgrade lighter ones to reduce mass. Maybe loose the shields and weapons if you are just going light, fast and far on those rare runs.

Reducing mass or getting better FSD. However maybe there is a way to boost FSD drive to get better range without mass reduction by dedicated boosting module.

True but there are areas where the systems are a lot further apart, a gadget like this would be of help there.

There is the question of what this would do to fuel consumption, perhaps it could work by boosting the amount of fuel you can use in a single jump and it should probably be limited to a single unit per ship.

Wouldn't it be better if we had more oportunity to sidegrade our existing components? For example, if you wanted range, you could find a FSD that had increased one jump fuel consumption, at the cost of something else, like power draw and/or mass.
Honestly, I think equipping would be a lot more interesting if we did away with the rating system entirely, just having size class and different sidegrades, like the weapons in Beta 3.

I said, not having a massive jump range. With that I meant jump ranges of 25ly+. I still spec up for 20ly ranges which I have found more than sufficient to cross any 'void' reliably.

This is one of ideas. Of course it will be better when we get a possibility to extend jump range by some way, larger fuel consumption, extenders, are only proposition of tools.
