Hey folks. So I've spent my first approximately forty hours in game just couriering and trading and it's entertaining enough, but I'm trying my hand at exploring. I've been looking through guides but I cannot for the life of me actually see how using the full spectrum scanner works. More specifically, I don't think I can get it to turn on. I have analysis mode enabled and I am in minimum speed warp, but pressing the button to enter or leave FSS ( ' or Backspace, default keyboard bindings) does nothing. Is this deprecated or changed? I do not see FSS as an item in the fire groups or as an internal or optional or core module. Can someone explain this to me in a way that assumes no prior knowledge? Every video guide I've checked begins with a fusillade of acronyms and it's like listening to a calculus lecture. Much appreciated.

Newcomer / Intro FSS for dummies

You have to bind a key to enter the FSS and you have to bind a key to leave the FSS (don't forget this). The FSS has its own toplevel key bindings group. You'll see it when you scroll down in the OPTIONS sceen. The FSS has a whole load of bindings and you'll have to experiment with them to find out what suits you.
--edit: To make things complicated the key binding to enter the FSS is not in the FSS key bindings group (but the key binding to leave the FSS is). But I'm not in the game now and I can't remember where it is. You'll have to search other groups (Modes or similar) for it. Sorry.

So this is embarrassing. Nearly 30 years of PC gaming under my belt and it's the single quotation key [ ' ] and not the accent key [ ` ]. Thanks everyone.
Wish i had a keyboard, controller work is proper rough, they even got it mostly right ( but its still just a controller right?? ), some times its easier to just fly there instead of scanning (but you were looking for some specific so needed rss yeah???)
