Newcomer / Intro FSS vs Nav Beacon

So I just learned how to use the FSS. It's pretty cool actually. Although, don't you get the same information from the nav beacon? Saving a ton of time? What's the point of the FSS other than getting the unidentified signals?

Not every system has a nav beacon, especially outside the Bubble/Colonia where there are none.

Not used a nav beacon much, so I cannot tell you what the difference is with the data collected with a nav beacon compared to the FSS.

You can sell the data gathered by the FSS and DSS (detailed surface scanner) in a system 20 light years or more from the scan. You cannot sell data gathered from the nav beacon.

Scanning the Nav Beacon is a real time-saver when hunting for High-Grade Signal Sources (where you can scoop G4 and G5 manufactured materials for engineering).

The other time I scan the Nav Beacon is on certain mission-types, again saving time by not having to use the FSS - although in these cases the circles in the FSS screen are a different colour for the mission target signal.

Fun fact: if you scan a Nav Beacon, you will here some morse code. That's the name of the system you're in. Or the first few letters, I can't remember exactly.
