Fuel dumping

When on the fringes of the Galaxy you sometimes just have to squeeze a few more lys from your ship. That is usually done by making a jump with fuel enough just for that single jump.

I know, that some people take smaller scoops for better control over how many fuel they scoop. Some people (including me) use lightweighted railguns with plasma slug to dump excess fuel.

Are there other ways of dumping fuel? And in particular, can one use fuel transfer limpets for that?

I think the limpets only work with another ship. What I did when going to Semotus to save on mats was simply jumping back and forth, but that doesn't always work out.

It would be really good to be able to dump fuel directly.

I also notice ability to dump materials has been removed, not sure why because both are useful imo.

There's no need to dump materials now, as you have limits per material, not an overall limit as before. Plus they don't weigh anything, so don't affect your jump range.

From my (limited) experience - in case of AspX (full fuel tank gives 5 full-distance jumps) it is usually enough to plan 2-3 jumps ahead and then tailor the amount of fuel to be scooped. Even with the biggest scoop it's pretty easy to stop scooping exactly when necessary.

I've done several series of "on fumes" jumps (25-30 jumps in total) and only once regretted I couldn't dump the fuel. And it was because I spotted a CN star at one-jump distance so there were no chances to execute a "2-3 jump plan". ;)

Thank you!

The plan to find multiple uses for fuel limpets and at the same time save 0.1 t of weight seemed a good one, but it looks, I'll still have to reserve one hardpoint for a railgun just in case :)

I don't have the rail gun option on my ship, but if I need to burn off fuel for a jump, I just turn everything on in the ship, and if there are rings, I will mine for mats or land and SRV prospect for awhile, takes a little longer, but with my Anaconda that jumps 75 Lys with half a tank, I usually don't have to burn off too much. The next option is to jump back to another system and not refuel. Would be nice to be able to dump fuel though with the press of a button....

Flying of fumes is "the way to go" on the very sparse areas IMHO. Once you are used to it, it is not that dangerous and the anxiety of not being able to do the next jump will fade away.

Just looking at your fuel bar you will know how close are to the max range but the most important thing is to remember checking the info about your next system main star to be sure it will be scoopable (and never jump when your reserve is about to deplete). I was able to travel that way for abour 15 months in a row. I only did a full refuel twice, both of the time because I god distracted with something on my 2nd monitor.
