Fuel: How do we go further

Hi,

It now seems that the sidewinder has only enough fuel to jump 6ly or less, how do you get to systems that are further? Is there a way to increase the fuel tank? or does one need to purchase another ship?

Also, is there a way to know how far you can go with the current amount of fuel you have?

You can increase your jump range by carrying less cargo, within limits. In theory there is a system in the galaxy map that shows you which stars you can jump between, but it doesn't seem to be very reliable atm.

Am I mistaken or are there some systems you cannot even reach with Viper at that point? Just for fun, i wanted to travel one of the trade routes from Eranin to Borg to deliver textiles... I don't think there's any way the Viper can make a jump to Borg from a nearby system as they all seems to be more than 6 LYs away.

Of course I can trade with other systems, the question is still: how can I get there? Will I need another ship or can i upgrade the hyperdrive?

Skimming gas Giants and Skimming Stars (Suns) will be the way forward for any explorer going into the unknown. This is what a Fuel Scoop will be used for once its implemented.

The missions system gave me a cargo haul from Eranin to CM Draco and for the life of me I can't determine how to jump there. Even if the cargo slider is set to 0 there appears no way to jump there. I've found a few of these "you can't get there from here" clusters of systems, unless the hyperspace routes the Galactic Map is showing me are relative to my ship there are quite a few places that appear to be dead-ends and quite a few clusters of disconnected systems. Perhaps a larger fuel tank or something is needed. Just wish the mission system didn't have that one, I ended up with a 3K penalty for non-completion.

I noticed this when I was trying to get back from Ovid to Opala, it showed up good to go from the navigation panel on the galaxy map but when I exited the station I couldn't get Opala to come up.

I had to supercruise towards the sun in Ovid for awhile before it would let me make the jump.

as we now buy fuel by the ton I assume that the larger ships with their bigger tanks will have the avaliable range to make the jumps.

Also i expect that there will be bigger fuel tanks coming in as upgrades as well.

Has anyone tried removing a laser to see if saving that weight increases range?

Bought a heat sink ejector. Couldn't jump 6.07 LY with one tonne of cargo.

Flew back in, sold Heat Sink Ejector. Retried jump, and was good to go!

Equipment weight now matters!

Oh, and check out the amazing precision of the weight listed for the Heat Sink Ejector (in the station OUTFITTING menu). It's quite funny. ;)

Me, at the Aulin Station Dock Bar...

"Here, the last peanut skin is all yours... My ship won't jump if I'm carrying the additional 0.00000192560424 tonnes."

I don't think fuel has much to do with your jump range, as I can make 3-4 max range jumps on a single tank of fuel in my Sidewinder.

I do believe we're getting bigger fuel tanks, extra fuel tanks for the cargo hold (so we can refuel enroute), fuel scoops and improved hyperdrives and powerplants (that use less fuel, and have greater range). But of course none of those are in the game right now, so it's harder than it will be to get to distant places.

I was kind of surprised that it took me two jumps to get to Aulin last night! But at least I got paid well for carrying a single piece of leather, and picked up some lucrative cargo on the way back.
