I usually get a plan in my head during the day what I'm going to do that night in Elite. Last night was rescue some escape pods, bring some goods to a single lonely small orbital in a binary system with only one lone faction member there...I feel bad for the guy, next do a decent round of bounty hunting, then finish the night with a couple of drops into odyssey CZ's.
When bounty hunting often a known pirate will try to run to another system, I will clean up the contracts in the system I'm in and then go after the stragglers. There are also times when my contact/informant is not very cooperative. I get to the system they are located in and immediately get the message- Hey you're a hard guy to find, lucky I found you... I can't locate them anywhere. Found them way on the outskirts of the system around 3kls out, start following them, he's heading outwards towards a gas giant and its moons. I'm putting into chat- Hey I'm right behind you, and- hey, where the h*** are you going? When we got to the gas giant the informant disappeared, then popped back up heading back in toward the main stars. Ugh... I start following them again all the way back to the main stars begging them in chat to please stop. lol Ya, I'm talking to NPC's now. Get all the way back to the main stars to have them drop out of SC just before the corona, Thanks buddy, way to go. Finally get the the location I need after probably 20mins or more of searching for and following this NPC. Frustrated with the informant i get the info and immediately plot a course, line up the nav beacon and hit jump... as soon as the FSD engaged my mind yelled at me- we're gonna be out of fuel! I didn't have to look at the gauge, I knew before the rigamarole of finding Mushmouth, I was low... In a corvette with a 21ly range.
As soon as I dropped out of hyper space, around 8% fuel in the reserve and 3/4's in the top main tank. Pull up the nav chart, and I can't find a system within my fuel range, no FC or large pads in the system I'm in. So I call The Fuel Rats, I put in the information they need on their website, and within one single minute I get a response! It's midnight on the east coast. They were ready at the drop of a hat. They're first concern was If I was running out of life support. I advised I had juts under 10% fuel and should be ok. While they were gearing up to come save my azz I searched Inara and found a system only 6lys away. I posted back to them to hold up, I found a system on Inara. I had enough for the jump, I jump, get to port with an empty reserve tank and half a tank in the top main. I respond to the Fuel Rats that I had made it and appologized for the false alarm. I can't praise enough how awesome these people are. I honestly felt like there was genuine concern and a heoric effort was put into place to save my insignificant azz. Never in my gaming history have I experienced a group of players dedicated to selfless acts of rescuing fellow players.
Thank you sincerely you hot dog brilliant pilots of The Fuel Rats!
And I hope I never have to call on you again! *thinks- Whew, thank gosh I didn't loose 100mil worth of bounty vouchers! Oh gees and a month of carography to trun in.
