Hello all,
Last night, I took the plunge and finally earned my tail! Yes, I am bragging
! In all seriousness, it feels good to be among the helpful and industrious people who go out of their way to help others for nothing more than the satisfaction of seeing the job through. Looking forward to my first real rescue op, hopefully sometime tonight.
But that leads me to my original intent for creating this post.
While I was undergoing evaluation, it was mentioned to me that specific groups of players had begun targeting fuel rats. I wasn't given any names, but this person mentioned to me that they had been the victim of such an attack five times.
My first reaction was to ask "Why?". But, I realize that the nature of this game encourages players to play however they see fit, and attacking a rescuer on his way to help a hapless pilot is fair game. I'm not here to complain that people would do this, because the reasoning behind it is obvious to me: it must be fun.
What I am wondering, however, is which group(s) is/are doing this, and how a novice rat like myself can defend himself. For my ratting ship, I run an asp with low grade shields, max power plant and FSD, dual 32t fuel tanks, A6 fuel scoop, and enough cargo space to hold about 12 limpets. I don't carry weapons for the very reason that they can limit my jump range and power usage, and I can't fit a very strong shield without dropping the larger fuel scoop or using multiple boosters and cell banks.
Because the rats have to operate in Open play most of the time, and it's not feasible to create a private group for the sole purpose of ratting (anyone who has been saved previously now has access to that group for whatever nefarious purpose), this leaves them vulnerable.
Can we, as a community, work to identify the culprits and develop defensive strategies, or would this come to close to "naming and shaming?"
Also, I'll open this discussion to anyone with any opinion about the fuel rats, their adversaries, and so on. I'm just exited to be a part of it and wanted to come here to talk about your experiences with the group.
Apologies if this is an inappropriate topic, or belongs elsewhere (exploration, maybe?). I didn't see anything prohibiting this topic from Dangerous discussion, but I could be wrong.
