Fuel scoop and fuel tank upgrades

As I was looking at my Cobra III build last night, I was considering replacing my 2A scoop with a 4A, even though it drops my cargo down to 20 from 36. The last time I used it for a rares CG, I died of boredom a thousand times scooping. But looking further, I also wish there were more fuel scoop mods besides shielded. Lightweight or faster scooping would be nice. Have they talked about this and I just missed it? Does shielded have any nice secondaries? Also, I wish we could mod fuel tanks. On some of my ships with very small tanks, I have an extra fuel tank that takes up a slot (I can't stand having a dashed fuel indicator).

Yes please, or at the very least allow us to purchase different fuel grades like the srv but have some drawbacks. like certain stars arnt scoop able or considerably more expensive

My Cobra Mk 3 has run a 4A scoop for ages, and it essentially feels like the ship has unlimited range. I never stop to scoop. Just scoot close around the star to my next jump vector, and scooping is done.

A nice choice of fuels and fuel scoop mods would be interesting, though.

As for the lighter tanks I agree, but the fuel scoop weighs nothing as is. Literally nothing, not being a jerk just thought I'd let you know. Faster scooping should have been in the game already for ships that just skip a class 4 slot like the Asp. There's no good reason that it isn't a feature. EDIT: the reason I'd want a class 4 in the asp is when I want to do combat missions or something and have a class 6 shield, class 5 scb, and class 4 scoop with a lighter fuel tank.

I ended up replacing my c2 w/ a c4 FS last night. It is much better now, though I miss the cargo capacity. I didn't realize they were so light.

Real fuel scoop mods would be great.

Non-combat modules in general are in desperate need of module-specific blueprints with interesting and meaningful effects, rather than the basic lightweight/reinforced/shielded options most of them have to make do with at the moment.

Modifieable fuel tanks: what's to modify there? It's a hole in your ship where you put fuel in. Its empty mass is zero, its filled mass is the mass of the fuel. What more do you want? It's even indestructable (...now there's an idea. make fuel tanks degradeable and targetable, then drop a couple of corrosive rounds in there :D).

Otherwise, nobody stops you from putting in a smaller tank in your ship. Often done by explorers or racers to get that little bit of extra jump range.

Fuel grades: are available. You can use either synthesis from materials (like in the SRV) to get an increased jump range (or use less fuel for a given jump), or you can scoop from special stars (white dwarfs and neutron stars) to get an extra boost (up to 300%) to your jump range.

Fuel scoop mods: tentatively yes - but what would be the mod, and what would be the balance? Only thing I could imagine would be improved scoop rate, but at which possible price? Power consumption? Heat buildup?

...SNIP....

How about faster scooping at the expense of .....

1) Jump Range - by increasing the throughput your reducing the ability of the 'filter' to give a high grade 'clean' fuel
2) Cummulative Thruster damage - for using low grade fuel (see above)

edit

3) Reduced Cruise and Boost speed
4) Reduced output from PP....Power consumption?

I'd just go with increased mass of the scoop (lowering jump range by a small amount) and increased heat during scooping.

Imo the only side effect for a high capacity fuel scoop is increase heat generation (or increased efficiency scoop with lower heat but lower capacity

Lightweight would be useless for Fuel Scoops, as they have no weight to begin with - but High Efficiency mods to raise their rate of collection at greater distances, Heat Shielded to reduce the Heat Gain during scooping, or even a rare, G5-only Refining to allow for scooping from star classes that cannot normally be scooped would be fantastic!
