OK so playing Elite at night... yeah you know what I mean now don't you ?
I have a nice set of Logitech G35 7.1 headphones which really sound good with games, Elite included. Sometimes though if you're using VoiceAttack you end up speaking louder than you need to (once you're into things for a while). So the solution to that is to slightly take one earpiece off so you can hear the outside world and the headphones. Downside is it's less comfortable, ruins the experience and then what's the point ?
Anyway... at night (midnight onwards), when I'm playing Elite it's enough for me just to turn the volume down to a level where all the noises (whether they be battles, collisions, hyperspace jumps etc) are pretty well not bothering anyone. I have a 5.1 surround system with a decent subwoofer.
I can play away all night at a low volume level (even using 'night' profile in Elite).
But... that loud boom when fuel-scooping completes is deafening (relatively speaking). It dwarfs the volume of all the other sounds.
It means if I turn the volume down so that the scoop completion doesn't have the upstairs neighbour banging on his floor then the rest of the game is just too low. You can then hardly hear the voice combacks like "landing gear deployed" and "scan detected".
In short, can we please reduce the volume of the fuel-scoop completion boom ? It surely doesn't need to be that loud by comparison to all other ship sounds.
I'm sure some will disagree or tell me to wear the headphones (in which case I invite you to read the post again)
In the meantime I have gone into 'custom.audio' file and changed this line from 1 to 0.

Lets see if that stops it......
