Fuel Scooping help?

Uhm, I disagree faster speed = greater scoop rate

No, the rate at which you scoop fuel depends on the quality and class of your fuel scoop, and how close you are to the star you're scooping from. Try it out at minimum speed 30 km/s to a star. If your ship is pointing away from the star, the fuel scoop rate will be decreased somewhat (at least it was like this pre-1.1).

Dont wait til your tanks are half or more empty. I refuel every jump, only takes a few seconds doing it and I'm on my way. I'm using hmm i think a 3A scoop on my cobra MK III and rate tops out at 176 i think it is.

I line up where can just see the glow of the stars corona usually just outside the green ring, and throttle down and find spot (distance from edge of star) where i get top fuel rate with minimal increase of heat. Rarely does my heat increase much over 100 before im full. I will let it get as high as 125 if needed before i pull out and increase speed to get away from the star and bring temps back down.

I have been jumped a few times lately since the patch, but i usually keep my engines at 4 pips when traveling so easy to boost away when need to.

Got to love voice attack and being able to change power distribution by voice. :)

Yes and no. Trick I've found is to pull up to the corona at min throttle, then 50% until the scoop kicks in. Throttle up until a decent flow rate, and then you can go back to minimum speed and still keep the same flow rate with no heat increase.
Might not be the fastest or most efficient way, but gives you time to look at maps, missions etc. without getting close to 100% heat if you hit the sweet spot.

I've seen the flow rate change with the throttle, although that could arguably also be just fooling with distance. Point the ship roughly to the collision line to get the gross intake value and then adjust the throttle to get the fine control of intake.

Somewhere up above, someone was saying that ship size doesn't affect refuelling, but I'd like to add to that as well: the ship size won't affect intake rate, but it can affect intake amount. The big ships eat fuel, while the small ships sip it. So after a big jump or a series of jumps, you'll be in more need of fuel with a big ship than a small one. If you have to fill a large empty tank, it will take time no matter the size of your scoop. Best to top up every safe star you can, although you could risk more interdictions.

Put the star above you and the corona line in the upper quarter of your screen. Surf in until 95% heat and then ease off (I like to top out at 99-100% so that the warning doesn't pop up and also that I can get away fast). I go around the star at average thrus so that I can use the time to align my next jump (I scoop on every jump if I can) or also break off quickly. With a big scoop that takes seconds.
As soon as I'm aligned (or another ship turns up that might look like trouble, since I'm currently in an undefendd T6) I break off and jump - even if the scoop isn't complete. You should know what the minimum temperature is at which you can start the hyperdrive without overheating to minimize this interval.

I realize that with the T6 having the extra 4 tonnes of cargo space would outweigh the benefit of carrying a scoop. But I just don't like to pay for fuel (and surfing the corona looks pretty).
