Fuel Tanks

What do you lot think of fuel tanks being targetable modules that once down to 0% slowly drain down to the reserves which leaves you with enough for super cruise or maybe one system jump?

Maybe two tanks to target that could be engineered, say lightweight and reinforced mods?

>Breach detected in main fuel tank.
>Damage control routine engaged.
>Clogging agent white foam deployed. Leak restrained.

It's 34rd century out there. These stuff should be standart!

What happens when an explosive round hits a fuel tank?

You can work some chemistry and engineering to easily make a hydrogen tank non-flammable and non-explodable at todays levels of knowledge and science :) Especially easier to do so in the vacuum of space where theres a lack of an oxidizing compound (such as oxygen) because to burn that tank or explode it, first you need the source of energy (the bullet) and second, %levels of necessary oxidizing compound to generate the desired effect. If I remember right, a tank having more than 75% hydrogen in it is a tank you can't burn or explode.

In 34rd centuries technology and redundant amounts of energy lying around, I could even expect dangerous materials to be quickly turned into a different safe material through chemical reaction for storage and returned back to the original state on demand, all automatically done.
