Fuel weight affecting manouverability

Since the recent few updates, I've noticed my ship seems a lot slower in the turns, and i can only attribute this to the amount of fuel i'm carrying. Is this a dynamic that has come in recently? My python used to be able to turn with a fer de lance in combat, but now moves like a slug in a cabbage patch. Dont mind the re-balanced npcs but it would be nice to kill one once in a while instead of having to turn and run.

Weight always affected maneuverability. There is a mathematical formula to calculate the thrust to weight ratio of your thrusters, which obviously depend on the raw power of your thrusters (all of them) and your total mass.

This is nothing new. You probably didn't notice because older NPCs were artificially slow.

The amount of fuel always had an impact on weight, and weight has an impact on turn rate. It was especially easy to notice on the Eagle.

Maybe the Python got changed ? Did you try putting more pips in ENG ?
I noticed that the NPCs now turn and maneuver a lot better than they used to, so it could be that the FDL you were fighting was just better than before ?

Weight always affects maneuverability. Since forever.

It's not the Python that got slower. It's the AI learning to play. AI FdLs are insanely good now.

Everything depends on optimal mass..go significantly over 50% of that figure & you will see your performance tail off, hence a big fuel load could make a tangible difference!

Got my Asp handed to me by an NPC Asp today (first rebuy since 2.1) and this probably explains why I could not turn with him.

Never noticed before due to the previously useless NPCs.

Fuel always affects your ship both on here and in the real world.

I want to carry 4 people in a Cherokee 150 - I can't go with more than 1/2 tank of juice! Same applies to our space machines :) Or it should!!!

I appreciate that I'm referring to in-atmosphere craft but fuel is weight and therefore slows the ship and affects manoeuvring.

And the Python has had a sluggish turn rate since it was nerfed.... over a year ago.

The old AI for the FDL was just plain stupid. It was one of the easiest ships to kill.
The new AI for the FDL fully takes advantage of what the ship can do and is very difficult to kill.

I think the MoM was looking to improve Ferdie a lot for this reason ;-)

Asps are my new nemisis since 2.1 - I've flown Vulture/AspX/Python since 2.1 and the Asps give them all a run for the money. Last night I face tanked an AspX in a USS, equal rank, Deadly... I prevailed, but not without a struggle for sure before the cops showed up and KSed me =/
