That's the kind of question that gets you killed.
When somebody is pointing a space gun at your canopy and asks you to lower your shields, your answer should be "Right away sir, do you want me to also drop my pants?", without a hint of sarcasm.

I watched the second vid. Realy cool. I would have fought you aswell till about 50% hull :) then give you what you wanted. U had every rite to kill him....silly to think a bit of cargo is worth a rebuy. When you are beaten and will die anyway u might aswell try giving the cargo over haha nothing else to loose! :) have some rep

I'd love to do a bit of real pirating....but..by the time I've typed "yarr give us ya cargo"....without a spell checker....the thargoids would be in control and there'd be no humans left :p

Those turreted cannons do look nice. :D

But why ask the targets to lower their shields? You don't need that for cargo collection or hatch breakers. That'd send a huge red flag to me if a pirate asked. Throttling down should be enough to start.

Exactly.
I've been pirated a few times, and no one ever asked that.
"Throttle down and drop X cargo" was all that was asked, and I complied.
You ask me to drop my shields, and I'm boosting.

Ok, so if you're just doing it for a little RP, you might want to re-word things. Throw a yarr! in there or something. ;)
Right now it comes across like a nigerian scammer asking for my social security number.

I don't encounter Player pirates, but I'd be inclined to say the same thing I tell NPCs:
"How about you drop YOUR shields and Cargo, and see if you can outrun my beams."

Funny videos, Hercules. Nitek's little Christmas carol parody made me laugh out loud. The Asp pilot in the second video was pretty thick headed, but I admired his pluck. Nice to see a CMDR play the scenario all the way through to it's conclusion without pulling the plug.
