Fuming - Bad Behaviour in Docking Ports

Hello - 1st post - whoop!

I thought I'd share a (not so) funny story... I've been playing for about a week, and have traded up my Sidewinder to a Hauler. So I've been running trade routes for the last couple of days, and I'm on approach to Chango Dock with Terrain Enrichment Systems worth about 1/4 of my total wealth.

I'm taking it slow, thinking "easy Tom, complete this trade and you can get yourself a fully equipped Cobra, and go have some combat fun".

I'm easing my way to the docking port (I had a crash earlier in the week that set me back)... Nearly in... Then, boom! Some complete muppet (not sure if it was NPC or another player) comes tearing through the port on full throttle & boost, straight into me! My ship explodes, and I'm faced with another few hours of trading to get back to where I was!

Not best pleased

Its beta pal, dont get to attached to stuff. Did you see him coming? The Hauler has horrible visibility in the cockpit so alot of times you dont know whats going on. When i upgraded to a type 6 a whole new world opened up for me. Also what saved my ass a couple times is all pips to shields when going through the docking port. Luckily you have some creds left :). Good luck sir!

Has happened to me a couple of times with NPCs and a player or two. Lots of near misses too!

I think as more people join the game down the line, these sort of collisions may become more frequent, at least in the "core" systems. Time will tell of course...

Always good to get into the habit of putting four "pips" of power into your shields when docking, to reduce the damage you take from collisions. Keep your eyes peeled and always be prepared to reverse or take evasive action!

When I'm on a run with a hit cargo, like bringing slaves into Chango, I'll quite often do a fast approach. Hit burner, toggle FA, glide to the front end of the station, get clearance and then head in at roughly 200 units. It minimizes the chance of a hostile scan. :) That said, I havent hit anyone yet due to keeping an eye out.

Maybe me. Pedal to the metal trough entrances. Landing gear never lowerd before pad is beeping ... Just keep to your side.

NPC's often clog up the entrance or station in general.

i must admit i do find docking with the throttle in the blue zone can be a lot of fun, but i'm considerate enough to only do it on solo play - its quite a rush stuffing a type 6 through the letterbox without slowing down, and surprisingly easy to do, unlike the cobra that's a little overpowered to manage it :D

Once in my Cobra I rode the front of a Lakon Type 9 like a bug on its windscreen out through the toaster... it was hairy for a few moments, but i survived. :D

There's absolutely no need for that. Just turn on silent running and glide through the front door at a pace that's safe for everyone.

Something to keep in mind-

You could have been hit by someone in a different instance. The other day I was zipping around in the viper and docked at the same station as a team speak friend. He was flying a Lakon type 9. As soon as I finished buying some upgrades I top gun it outside at full boost (of course making sure nobody was in the way) and I smoothly exited without a scratch. A few seconds later my friend mentions that on HIS screen, he was in the entrance slot, and that I had rammed him taking out his shields, also doing quite a bit of hull damage to his ship.

On my side however there was nobody there, so i had full shields and was about to enter super cruise.

It's unfortunate but I believe a lot of these sudden deaths are related to this bug and people just assume it was intentional.

Crashed

If it's any consolation, I just crashed my Lakon Type-6 filled with cargo.

I don't have enough credits for insurance. I'm back to square one. I think I'll take a break from Elite for now.
